Can use use a Shimano triple front derailler (FD-6603) with a Campy chorus shifter? Or to put it in another way, can you replace a Campy triple FD with a Shimano triple FD? Thanks in advance.

The problem is not with the Campy. shifter, it is with your crankset. If your Campy crankset is a 52-42-30 , the FD-6603 (made for 52-39-30) won't work, the back lip/flange of the dérailleur won't clear the 42T, and if you re-adjut it to clear the 42T, it will be to high for the 52T. Obviously, no problem if your Campy crankset is 52-39-30.

I started to take exception to this since I have a Specialized Allez Elite which has a Sugino triple crankset, 52-42-30, and a Shimano 105 FD. Then I realized that it is 9 speed and Shimano offered a 52-42-30 crankset at that time. Now, with 10-speed, they offer a 52-39-30 crankset. Are the FD's that much different for 9 speed vs 10 speed? I am surprised that they would change the chainring sizes this way just due to the chain getting a little thinner.

This is one of the chief benefits of the Campagnolo brifters.

Actually, the width isn't much of an issue. It's really about the middle/big jump.

The so-called "9-speed" triple front derailers are optimized for a 10 tooth jump middle/big.

The so-called "10-speed" triple front derailers are optimized for a 13 tooth jump middle/big.

Chose on the basis of you chainring sizes, not the number of speeds on your cassette.
