I need to go up Lida again, I've been riding down around California a lot lately.

I love it. 17 mile loop from my house so I can get a really decent workout in about an hour.

Next Tuesday I think I'm going to commute to work... 19 miles to Sun Valley starting 5:30am

Updating SolidWorks (cad software) to 2008 SP0. It's so advanced it won't actually let you install it.

Seems that all of BF has been slowing down lately. The #'s of people viewing seems to be about half of what it was just 2 months ago.

Member activity fluctuates for every forum. I've seen this on both of the other car forums i'm regularly on.

JustMe

So, . . . are there any common characteristics that seem to accompany these fluctuations?? Season of the year, changing membership, boredom with activities? Just curious.

For car forums (brand/model specific ones anyways), there's usually in influx of new members or a flurry of activity around the time a new model or revision is made avaliable. New people buying (or interested in buying the new car) or older members showing up to express their opinions on the new model.

For a website like this, i'd predict activity to pick up around the time the school year starts (students looking for bikes) or around the holidays/new year (people looking for gifts or for new year's resolutions), or even around specific events or racing seasons (such as the Tour De France).

I'd even venture to say that warmer months would generally = more forum activity because that's usually a more desireable time to get out and ride (may not for southern california but in other areas it's true).

I have created a complex statistical model that has discovered a distinct correlation between the NYSE and BF Socal forum traffic. Specifically, I have been honing in on the news/trading activity of a certain international chain restaurant corporation. I'll get back to you when I crack the code.

:D :D Sounds like a very comple algorythm will be necessary which I'm sure you'll share with the rest of the world when you have it perfected.

ROTFLMAO

I have to break off the group and take Foothill home just to be back by 1:00 to make my wife happy. That, and I have to keep the bike in a place that won't make it easy for her to run it over with her car like she wants to so badly.

Get rid of your bikes (store them at a friends). Buy a keg of PBR, one case of ice cream, two cartons of Marlboro, and a jumbo box of Costo taquitos. That is enough to get started. Have at it and start eating and drinking to excess. When you think you are full, eat some more. Be drunk all day every day. Start inviting unsavory characters to dinner and tell them not to leave for a couple of weeks. Soon, your wife will be begging you to go bicycling. begging I tell ya. Here is the key step, resist at first. Tell her you like your new lifestyle. If you omit this very important step, within 2 weeks she will be pestering you about the time you spend bicycling again. The additional effort here will pay off year after year. Just remember, for this plan to work, she really needs to talk you into bicycling again.

I'd hazard a guess that many of us are a little burned on the cycling. Check out bikejournal. I'm right around 3600 miles and I don't crack the top 30 in the Socal group. Add in the 'private' users who I think all have more miles than me, and I'm closer to 40. Add in the people who don't even use bikejournal, I'm even further down the list.

That's a LOT of time and miles for people who do this as a hobby.

Oh, really. I'd love for you to share with the class your "code cracking" discoveries as I do not believe in that theory. :p:D

I love it, but I'd have to actually be hospitalized with alcohol poisoning or a heart attack before she'd "beg" me to do any kind of exercise, and she'd just tell me to use the elliptical. I should have married a woman with less brains.

I am at Southern California Edison as a contractor.
The job is okay, but the commute is hell.... 55 miles or so... one way!
