Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Today I joined a couple friends and we rode the new mountain bike trails in our area. Other friends said we were crazy but we had a wonderful time. Two of us, myself included, had never been on a mountain bike trail and the other rider hadn't been on them for a couple years.
We chose the easy (?) trail. We took it slow and easy as it was steep in some areas and they left just enough space for bikes to get through several of the trees. There were wooden bridges across a couple areas, lots of switchback turns and a few creek crossings. The fall colors were fantastic but the fallen leaves made it hard to see the trail, rocks and tree roots.
One rider took a tumble when he slid off the trail. It was covered with leaves and he misjudged the edge. I slipped as I was stopping and tumbled over with the bike. No one was harmed and we've decided it was so much fun that we'll be going back. We just need to recover.....it was a lot tougher than climbing hills on the road bike:) We were gasping for breath on many of the climbs.
Since I can't get the pictures to insert here's a link to the pictures.

Looks like a fun trail. The leaves are beautiful, but someone should go through there with a leaf blower every few days to keep the trail visible.

Far quicker if you can't see what you are about to hit. And just imagine it- One look at all that mud in the Hollows and the path would get wider.
Glad to see you didn't walk the hills but you are right- Offroading is Good training for road hills. And just face it- If you saw a road covered in that many leaves- You would divert round that route. MTB's rule- Well at least on this type of trail.

Beverly, will you get snow there? When I lived in the mountains I would ride in the snow, it's great fun,as long as it stays cold! If it's slushy it's like sand, and if it melts and re-freezes, watchout!

Yep, we'll get snow. It's really hard to say how much since some years we just get a few inches a few times during the winter and other years it dumps on us:eek: A couple years ago people from The Weather Channel were about 6 miles from my house broadcasting since we were getting pelted with a snow storm.....really unusual for this area.
I doubt I'll venture out on the trails during real cold or snowy conditions. I don't even ride the roads when they're covered with ice or snow. I might take the mountain bike on some of the paved trails in the area to ride in the snow:)

Bev - what a great look'n machine - the bike ain't bad look'n either:)
Looks like you had a great time.
To the poster who said that roadies won't go over leaves - Bah!
This time of year I can't see the surface of the mup, slip over the leaves at 20+MPH. You just need to know where the trail is and isn't...
