I bought a 4-6 year old Lemond from a friend at work just to get into shape. This year I got into 3 event and needless to say the ole Lemond is not going to cut it for much longer. I need some suggestions on brands, buying a whole bike vs. building, carbon vs. other materials, etc. Basically all info would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

How much are you willing to spend?
How much work are you willing to do? (in terms of doing assembly yourself)
And lastly, do you want a dedicated TT/Tri bike or a road bike used occasionally for triathlons?

4-5000 on the bike, I am pretty handy but have never assembled a bike before so not really sure on the 2nd question, and I think I do want a dedicated tri bike. I've got this road bike mentioned before and it could do for the few group rides I do but I usually ride by myself. And, also, it's flat.....really flat down here on the Gulf Coast.

A lot of the older aluminium Cervelo TT frames can be picked up cheaply now because they've gone carbon on the P2. I'd recommend an older aluminium P3 or P2.
