Hello -

Been having fun on my new Trek. Feels great to be back on the road after 15 years or so.

Anyway, I decided I wanted to pickup my first bike jersey and got a Nike USPS Retro Jersey. It fits pretty snug in the chest, shoulders and arms, but is looser in the waist and stomach. Is this okay? How should a jersey fit?

Thanks for any insight.

Me? got a big tummy, very snug on the tummy, a bit loose on the chest.:D

PS: for women, i believe its fine if the waist area is a bit loose..

Teski,

Not sure how they are suppose to fit. My body shape is by no means perfect and thus I only worry if it is comfortable to me.

I do not like them too loose. When loose they seem to "flap in the breeze" and also seem heavier when wet. I actually like mine snug, BUT not tight.

Shoot, I go for function. As long as the fit is approximately OK, I don't sweat the small stuff. I ain't no fashion model.

Mine fit me just like a t-shirt. Some people prefer them to run snug, but I dont like tight fitting clothes. They feel like they breath better being a little loose. If you buy any European jerseys, remember that they USUALLY run a size smaller than what they say on them.

Mainly, you just don't want it to be too baggy, for aerodynamic reasons.

I appreciate the replies. I think the size I have is right based on the opinions here.

Take care,

I have two jersies. One is kinda medium loose and a little more flattering on the spare beer feature of my gut, and the other is tight. As long as I am not feeling too fat I like the form fitting jersy. In fact the reason I got it was the idea that over time as I lose weight I would go from slightly embarrased to wear it to feelin' sexy in it. ;) So far its working.

But in the end the less flappin' in the wind the better - I think.

I think they're supposed to be abit closer to your skin than normal shirts because they wick sweat away. If they don't touch the skin, they can't do that job... The fit should work on the bike. A "just right" jersey can become too tight when you're stretched out on a bike...

Keep in mind that some jerseys come in what's called a 'club cut'. These jerseys are designed to be a little looser around the midsection, which is good for folks like me that are packing a few extra pounds. ;)
