Anyone got any recommendations for a new bike lock? I am at the moment using an old coild with build in lock device. Its ok but the lock has a plastic casing and is starting to rattle a bit so I'm thinking of replacing it.
At the moment I'm looking at getting one of these:
Abus Steel-O-Flex 900 - 100cm (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/v2_product_detail.asp?ProdID=4000000261)
Kryptonite Kryptochain And Padlock (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/v2_product_detail.asp?ProdID=5360009137)
Any one got any comments on these locks or any recommendations for other locks? I usually attach my bike to a steel piller at work so I prefer the cable & lock style rather than the U-Lock.

I keep a U-lock at work and another at home. I carry a lightweight $2 cable lock on the bike in case I want to stop for a coffee or a pee on the journey. I think the Kryptonite chain looks most impressive, but I wouldnt want to lug it around with me everywhere I go - particularly up the hills.
Hi,
I have that Kryptonite lock, and it is indeed damn heavy. I have no idea how it compares with that German lock; or how well it would work against your local thieves. But it seems ok, apart from being so heavy. I have a cheap cable
lock that only weighs a pound. After lugging the Kryptonite up a few mountains; I am seriously thinking of using the lighter lock on rides where the bike won't be sitting around unattended for long periods of time.

I keep the U-lock and cable on the bike. What's an extra 2-3 lb on a commuting bike anyways? And when I go for an extended ride, that 2-3 lb is nothing compared to the extra weight of tools, extra tubes, sweaters, raingear, lunch...
But then, my bike has full fenders, 2 racks and a Brooks saddle. And although I'm not the fastest kid on the block by any means, I pass more than my share of commuters.
Regards,
I have the Kryptonite chain- yeah, it's heavy, but I'm feeling good about knowing it's that much harder for thieves to steal my bike. I also carry a U lock and I lock both the front and back wheels to something solid ALL THE TIME. Yes, it's anal, but I never have problems. My bike is always there when I come out of the store or the club or wherever I travelled to.
