These were taken last week at the Cherry Creek Mall here in Denver. It's a pretty upscale mall... mostly fashion type stores. Pics were all taken in the early afternoon (After most lunch goers would be back to work) Ok... they're not ALL utility bikes... but it was nice seeing so many bikes in such an place.

Looks like there is ample (bike) parking. Are the bikes in the last picture even locked:eek:

Hah!!! the first thing I thought of in the last pic is that the riders are on the other side of the bushes gettin their groove on.
I ran into that similiar situation when riding at a local park. 2 bikes leaned up against a tree = 2 riders making little riders...LOL

What I find amazing is that there are bike racks at all. None
of the malls or other local business in my area have any place
assigned to park bikes!!

The riders are about 5 feet further left eating at an outdoor table. ;)
I cut the people out of the pic... only wanted the bikes.

Every mall I've been to in Denver has bike racks... The mall closest to my house has them outside the Target store.
That mall that I posted the pictures of is right off the Cherry Creek Trail... a trail that goes from downtown out into the suburbs with almost no at-grade road intersections. There are all kinds of bike racks downtown, too... my biggest complaint is about the 16th street mall... it's a pedestrian mall, and there are bike racks, but they're all around the corners, on the traffic streets... so if you go to any of the shops you can't see your bike.
I get paranoid... my bike is a huge investment for me, I really DON'T like having it out of my sight... Nobody has ever messed with my bikes yet, but lots of other people have had theirs stolen.

Sometimes I am amazed too. This afternoon I biked to 4 stores:
* suburban Target
* my local LBS
* my local library
* local health food store
All of them had bike racks. Even my grocery store and the local Walmart have bike racks.
(But if they didn't I would have used a tree or something.)
Ok... they're not ALL utility bikes...
I don't know...if somebody rode them to the mall to shop, I'd say they're all utility bikes. My own utility bike is cleverly disguised as an ordinary Trek mountain bike.

The last two were stopping to eat on a recreation ride. ;)
The rest were mostly either commuters or shoppers.
Speaking of bike racks the grocery store and Home Depot where I live have installed bike racks in the last couple of months. I call that progress.

You have good people living near that mall. The owners left their bags still attached to those racks without any fear of theft. All you need now is for someone to see those nice bikes and start stealing parts, bags or whole bicycles.

I thought this was funny, yesterday I tool my walmart bell light off my bike before leaving for work so someone wouldnt steal my light off my bike while I was working. Of course when I left work I noticed the nice older Trek roadbike with a LBS bought head light on it and the bike was locked up with a $3 walmart bike lock like the one I use on my seatpost on the folder. And my co-workers 24" wheeled (kids) MTB is just leaning up against the rack with its lock still wrapped around the top tube, not locked to anything.

Two of those bikes are ours.
I never take my bags off the bike... nor my light, pump, bottles, etc.
Although my bike is not generally locked up outside of any business for more than about 20 minutes. If it's there longer I'm checking on it regularly.
As far as those particular racks go... the bike path runs right by there, and there's a fairly constant stream of cyclists on it. They're also visible from at least two of the restaurants in the food court, overlooked by a smoking area for mall employees, AND under video surveillance.

Same here. My town has over 90,000 people, and so far I've only seen 3 bike racks (not counting the university). One of those is at the LBS. It's not a big deal as long as I can find something to lock it to, it's just annoying that they never even considered people getting there by any means besides motor power.

Heh, reminds of earlier this summer when I went to my own Home Depot to get some planting stuff, including the plants and a large bag of potting soil. One of the employees was walking back and forth from where I was loading my bike skeptically wondering how I would possibly get all of that stuff onto my bike. I wish I had a camera to catch the look on his face when I rode off with everything attached to my back rack via net bungee and trunk bag.

I get that look outside the grocery store. :D
It's fun!
The last time I went to Home Depot (last weekend) I took my bike in the store with me... and ended up answering a ton of questions about it from one of the staff. :)

Same here. I get lots of questions about my Xtracycle; so far as I know, I have one of two here in Charleston.
