I can't order a jersey. :notamused:

They only go up to a women's large, and I have a large chest. I can't order a guy's jersey, because they don't fit right... too large around the middle and too tight in the hips.

Call Jerry at the 800 number and see about the T's then. They have a wicking T you could sub in.

I ordered a men's medium. They aren't tight around the bottom like many of the men's jerseys.

Yep, that's my brother. He's also videotaping the ride, as well. He's got about as much camera gear as I do cycling stuff! On another note, does anyone want to try pacelining the track? Might help if it's windy.

I have done some close-in Drafting with a group of former racers. But never a paceline.
We will have to do some to make the 100 miles under the time limit.
I am not real fast but have been riding 75 miles 3 to 5 times a week in high winds.

FYI - Due to a few issues, including lack of training, funding (gas and lodging) and a serious pet illness, I will not be riding in this ride this year.

Just too many things stacking up against spending the time and effort to drive too many hours each way to ride for such a short distance... If I really thought I would end up riding more than 30 miles or so, I might still give it a shot, but the plans to spend the weekend in Indianapolis just won't work out this year. I look forward to joining the team next year... and will be there in spirit this year.

I look forward to reading ride reports and seeing the photos.

Yeah, I'll definitely be setting up TS again next year, though.

I can certainly understand this with the price of gas lately. I filled the van tonight and it cost me $85:eek:

Hope to see you next year.

Purely an optical illusion I assure you. Far from what most cyclists consider a fast rider:commute:

Quick question / Has anyone received the emergency info packets, that need to be filled out prior to the ride? Just trying to keep my ducks in a row over here.

Not yet, I haven't. If all else fails, they will be at check in as well.

My wife will be working checkin for the Century, as well, so it'll get taken care of. I'll also try to have them available at the hotel if needed.

How Smooth is The Indy Track:

My thought - there should be plenty of fresh rubber put down from the race to help smooth things out. I also hope they haven't painted the walls from the wrecks yet, either!

Tom Stormcrowe
05-27-08, 10:34 PM
You ask how smooth the track is> It's got microgrooves to help with lateral traction on a car taking corners at 200+ MPH, and other than that is the smoothest surface you could ever hope to ride on.

By the way, when we ride over from the hotel, in the entry tunnel off of 16th, be VERY careful, there is a set of drain grates across the road that could create issues with narrower tires at the lowest point of the tunnel.

The track looks super smooth in the photo.
I ordered 700C X 25's tires from Performance. Installed them and they were much smaller. Had them measured and it turns out they are 21's that hold 125 psi. Rode um for 66 miles. Will use them on the 100 mile track ride.
The Vittoria Action HSD tires that came on my bike say 23's but are 25's when measured..
94* Hot Hot yesterday on a 70 mile ride. The back tire developed a bulge after 43 miles. Made it home but the threads are showing at the buldge area.
Keep it cool up there in Indiana.

I'll be bringing the Trek 520...with 700x32 tires I shouldn't have too much to worry about:)

Oh! Well, it shouldn't be too bad. The track will be segregated for the family and Century riders. The Century field is capped at 100 total. I'm not sure where we are on that number though.

As an un-informed opinion, assuming a HUGE turnout, it might be mildly problematic at a couple of short spots during the first 5-10 laps before the kiddies start to fade away. You may have to pick a line 5 or 10 feet above the apron to avoid the mess, but you have plenty of width to deal with... Racers can go side by side at near 200 MPH on the corners... I think you can pass a gaggle of kiddies at 20 mph. It may just add a small hill or two early in your ride as you go up the bank to avoid a flock or two. :)

Well, the thought I have is to keep to the inside as much as possible while in the straights, cut high into the corners, & gently roll down the bank back to the straights to save some energy, & boost speed. All depends on how many Burley trailers & training wheels I see, too! Plus, if my math serves me right, the closer to the infield you stay, the shorter the distance than staying all the way to the right.

Tom Stormcrowe

Except the Century portion is the outer lanes on the track.

I have to admit, I'll probably just be out there making laps, and not worrying about getting the 100 miles done. My training isn't quite what I expected it to be so far. If 43 NASCAR drivers have room to pass each other, 99 cyclist should be able to pass me easy. :speedy:

I'm just planning on seeing how far I can go, and to make the most fun of it I can. :D

Tom Stormcrowe
05-29-08, 04:27 PM
That's my plan as well, since I crashed. There will be actually 6.5 hours to do it though and I plan on breaking it up into 8 sets of 5 laps, myself.....I'll likely have to ice down the shoulder a time or two, anyway. That's part of the reason I have the full zip Jersey. Jerry upgraded me for free after the crash. He read about it in my blog! He figured it would be easier for me to work the shoulder in and out of the jersey......

Just two of us at 16 mph on a county road today.
Metal sounding as my if rear wheel was collapsing. I was knocked left and decided I was going down fast.
Came to a stop, looked back, my friend had gone down after hitting my rear wheel and dérailleur.
He hit hard. Split His Bell helmet open on left side. Elbow, shoulder, leg with road rash.
We road 5 miles to friends home and he doesn't remember that.
I can't Imagine what the track will be like with 100 riders that have NEVER BEEN Together?

Are you worried about it being crowded, or excited about meeting new people?

If you are worried about it being crowded, think about it... with 100 riders on the track evenly spaced, they will be about 130 feet apart... Assuming some number of them ride in pacelines or clusters of some sort, if you want some elbow room, I am sure you can pace it to be between groups and have plenty of room.

:)

I was on that track with a couple thousand riders for Race to replace's ride with Lance Armstrong, and it wasn't all that bad. You had to keep your wits about you.....
