You didn't get your's yet? :p While I'm here, the TDC 2009 site is up, but we need to have the team added to the team list. Never too early to start pan handling! I guess we'll have to make up a new post too, huh.

I'm in.

I know I'm in again for "09"!
Actually, Tom has assured me we will be riding again in "09". He's going to get the team listed soon, and will PM or email us to let us know. Kinda cool to get the motivation juices flowing, and spark up the conversation again.

was it in circles (well ovals)?

Nope, Went out on county roads looking at Hurricane Ike damage.
50 % of most homes Don't have Electical Power Yet.
But I like Ovals.
Thanks for asking.

The remanants of Ike knocked out our power for over 12 but less than 20 here close to Indy. I cant imagine what the storm would have been like on the coast. Seems crazy to stay.

We have warm winters. We had three in a row with Not even a frost.
The Storm had Hurricane Winds for 8 hours.
Three of our bike freinds had 3 to 4 foot of water in their homes.
My electric was out for FOUR Days. Lost two trees in the yard.

Hi 10 Wheels,

Glad to hear you came through the storm with just some minor damage to the property. Those things can be remedied with a little time, and patience. You may have some damage to the insulation under that roof. It soaks up water like a sponge, and you don't want that wieght pushing down on your ceilings. It may not show up right away, but it would be worth taking a look if you can. Of course you may have already checked this, but I'm just thinking about things I have seen in my 30 years of construction work.

Best wishes,

Pennsylvania Denny

Received Free 12 MRE's.They each have Two Great Engergy Bars.
With Electrical Power Off for 4 days (Total Electric House) We used 934 KWH. $113 Electric Bill.

Made in Canada: $71.88 per case, Had two great granola bars in each box. Could not find the cost of those.

I used to carry those on the truck when I was in remote areas. They aren't bad, actually. I love the saline chemical reaction oven pack in the box. :p Works quite well. They'd be great for bike touring if they just weren't so heavy as compared to freeze dried.

My first time to use one.
I was heating one up, When the electric power came back on.
They get very very hot when left in the box.
The energy bars have energy for riding.

Glad to hear you came through this without major problems.

I was surprised at how much this storm was still packing when it hit Ohio:eek: I lost power for one day but there are still people in the area who are without power and it was over a week ago.

Thanks, The storm just slowed us down for three days.
Hauling the tree limbs to the curb strained my arms , elbows, and wrists some.
Rode another 100 miles yesterday, 76 mi Monday. wrists still get sore while riding.
Traffic is now a complete mess in the entire area. Schools opened back yesterday.
Most Stop Lights are Not Working. People here don't seem to know how to manage 4 Way Stops.

OCT 2008 Bicycling magazine has an excellent article on Team Type 1. Covers the perils of having diabetes and long distance cycling, and will probably do lots to help others understand "Red Riders" much better.

Only advantage to Chicago's would be if you could catch the train from South Bend and take the rails w/bike, saving vehicle wear/tear and gas.

I am hoping to join the Indy ride next June.

I dont think bikes are allowed on the train unless "packaged" I researched the idea in Bike Forums and found a gentleman whom was forced to pay for a cab ride home from South Bend back to Chicago. Apparently the attendant in Chicago was unaware of the rules and allowed him onboard, but the attendant here said no way!
The Chicago ride is shorter, but more scenic, and 20,000 riders? Really? That might be the deciding factor in this. Undecided.... For now.

Indy's Cure DeTour has multiple mileage choices and it is my understanding all start at the track.

Also, IIRC, only 100 riders are permitted to attempt the Century run on the track and must complete within 6.5 hours.

Regarding the train option, I only thought it was an option. Friend tried from NE Indiana depot, and was turned away, had to have bike packed, AMTRAK policy. Is the rail offering in South Bend the same?

While it wasn't really inforced, it was mostly century riders later in the day. However, some of the 50 & 75 riders were able to ride the track after finishing their routes. Plus the family ride allowed how ever many laps you wanted, too. A good time was had by all, & we'd love to have more team riders next year!

I inquired the ADA about if I were to sign up as an individual, could my registration be transfered to a team later if one were to form. I got the answer I was looking for, YES :thumb:. So I decided to sign up today, and get an early jump on my fund raising goals.

My training for the upcoming ride has already begun as well. I've made a promise to myself that I will not let the track defeat me this time out. My weight is down 26 lbs. so far from last year, and I hope to lose another 24 before event time.

How about ride both? i guess I need to contact ADA about those details.

If you mean do the rides in Indianapolis and Chicago, yes. You have to pay to register for each ride and raise at least the minimum for each ride. You can ride as many Tour De Cures across the country as you can make it to.
I lost my brother to diabetes, it can really affect the body. My younger son also has Type I.
I'll be riding the Tour De Cure in Napa, Ca, and might even break out my upright bike and ride the one out of Woodside, Ca.

They can go just about anywhere.
Here some sit on the track wall at The Start Finish Line.
My brother got out on the track for this pic.
I am the skinny guy at mile 70.

Ok, don't know if anyone else got the package, but I received today a new Grey T shirt, & two certificates stating that I had finished the 100 mile ride. Not that I mind, but is everyone who attempted the century getting one of these?

p.s. - we've surpassed 10,000 views - wow...
