FYI. . as of 12/18 the registration form didn't have the 100 mile ride @ Indy on it. The organizers are supposed to be having it added to the form. So if you have already signed up and want to do this then you need to contact them to make sure. It's only open to the first 100 who sign up.
Can't wait to meet everyone!!

Make sure I know you are wanting the 100 mile track ride......
I'm one of the committee members ;)

Yeah, I emailed Sierra and Barbara and let them know. Now it's time to let the captain know :) Sign me up!!

Cool beans, and Sierra did forward to me that you and I are definitely in to transfer to the 100 mile list :D

Let's welcome 2 more Team Members as well, Fred and Solveg!
I'm looking for recruits to ride at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway
Tom, As soon as the Tour admin folks get it streightened out, I'll be on the team, I've sent them the note asking to build the dual membership, so it's shouldn't take too long.

Cool beans!
Tom, the fundraising thing is confusing to me.
I thought I could maybe kill 2 birds with one stone: certain members of my family make donations to non-profits in people's names instead of giving gifts. I thought I could do that... but I don't understand the deposit slip thing....

You can use the website for secure online donations, or you can also collect offline and mail them in. Source doesn't matter, family, friends, strangers.....even yourself:D
There are all kinds of tools to use.
Wow! I made goal in ONE day! That was SO much easier than I thought it would be. I was having flashbacks to being a girlscout and hauling around a brown envelope full of money! The website system is really slick.
Tom - Need you to contact the local folks on this, I've sent emails to the touradmin, but still not picked up and just get ""Our records indicate that you have already registered for this charitable event."" When I clicked on join the team. Seems they changed it or I never understood thier process. Last I did one you had to register as an individual first. Not the case any longer - have to join the team first. Any way, If you get the admin stuff straight, I'd be happy to roll on Team Stormcrowe.

I decided to join your team.
I am riding in the Central PA area TdC in May, and now Indianapolis in June, then the Livestrong ride in August. Enough charity rides for the year!
I signed up to ride on the track. To be honest, I don't think I will be going for 100 miles due to the time limit... but I will cheer each time you fast riders pass me! I have never rode 100 miles, and I think 6 hours is too optimistic for me.
Any hotel recommendations within easy driving distance of the track?
EDIT: On second thought, if I don't aim for a goal I won't make it. How do I sign up for the 100 mile track option? I am signed up for the track...

So far, most of the folk on my team are planning on the 100 mile ride. For now, if you signed for the track, then you will be doing either the 100 mile or the family ride with the emphasis on the 100 mile. ;)

Average speed for the six hour max is 16 mph, plus factor in your on a flat surface, it shouldn't be too terrible. I'm looking for info on hotels, too.

Here's a list of Motels and hotels near the Speedway, with a wide range of prices, from upscale to budget minded :D

I am so* excited to meet all you guys. Although there's no way I'm going on that track, so I won't get to ride with you. But Tom promised I'd at least get to meet you all, and I'm holding him to that.
Yeah....I think 4 of us are 50+ so far....

I presume we're all going to get together for Dinner after as well. :D That's my plan!

I guess I'm the youngin' of the group, huh? I'm not planning to leave town until Sunday afternoon, so Saturday evening works great for me - as long as it's after nappy time!

I may be the youngin, but I have nothing but respect for my "elders". I've been dropped too many times by 65 year old Triathalon grandmothers. Never judge a book... Also, a little something I'm blowing up & putting up at work

I just completed my sign up, Solveg. That makes another 50+....make that 50+++ in my case:rolleyes:
We can burn up the roads around Indy while everyone else is on the track:)
That makes my day, Beverly!

I don't want to go* on the track.
I'll get nervous at the size of the crowd and run into someone's back tire and ruin the day for them.

If you want something crowded you should try the Indy Nite Ride.....now it's crowded:eek::eek:

Oh Mi God! Tom, you gotta realize... I usually ride alone!
Maybe if I ride a big wheel bike like that one guy, people would give me some space....

My girlfriend and I loved it. We did the dinner ride, rode on the Velodrome, watched the races and then did the night ride. It was a well organized event and I was amazed at the people sitting in their yards waving at the riders that late at night.
We're thinking about doing it again this year but coming over in time to do the morning ride, too. A very full day of riding:)

I'm assembling a training log Excel sheet, if anyone on the team wants it. I can send it via email to you in either 97-2003 Legacy format or the new 2007XML version, just let me know. It's a 12 week log, by the way.
(You'd need Office 2007 for the XML version).

I'll look at it. I've never done any organized training. I shouldn't have to for the 70k, should I? Or do they make us do it in 2 hours or something?

I rode about 3 times in 2007, and won't be on the road for a couple of months due to cold weather.
I plan to try the century.
If you can ride 20 or 30 miles, then just start increasing your long ride by 10% or so per week. If you can do about 50 on your longest ride before the event, then 70 at the event should be good. Assuming that your riding is on similar terrain.
Be sure to taper off for a few days before the event.
Little Darwin!!!! Thanks for reminding me!!!!!
What is the terrain like? I will be in Kansas all spring, and I won't be doing any hill work at all....
