Above is a link to my team page for Tour de Cure. I'm looking for recruits to ride at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway or on the various road rides we have scheduled. I'm planning to do a 100 mile, 6 hour or less hammerfest on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, using it as the worlds fastest and smoothest velodrome. Join me in the ride and have a great one!

Wow, if I lived up your way, I would join you, that sounds very cool

Tom,

Count me in again! it was a great experience last time!! We need to make a few days out of it next year. Kick it around town and meetup with whomever else is riding the day before.

Brian, fly up with your bike ;) You won't need a place to stay, we'll put you up!

Advance booking flights are cheap and a boxed bike flies for about $50.00, IIRC.

And I am off and running! I have my first donation, from a BF member who wishes to remain anonymous! Thanks much though and you know who you are! ;)

I'll take credit, it was me. Or maybe blame for giving the minimum.

But, I'm still the first and only donor!

This is no good folks.

Many if not most of us have family and friends that are effected by diabetes. Many here are diabetic. Its very important to work towards the end of anybody anywhere having diabetes. It's a horrible thing to live with.

Let's see some more donations!

So your actually going to ride around the track 50 times or so?

Tom Stormcrowe
11-17-07, 01:02 AM
Actually, 40 laps, it's a 2 1/2 mile oval. To answer your question, yes. I'm shooting for a 5-5 1/2 hour Century, by the way.

I'd also like some folk to sign up for the Team! If nothing else, I'm going to need folks there to keep cheering me on, especially when I start hurting  You don't have to do a Century, there are family rides as well as shorter road courses that start and end at the Track. Well supported and well organized with good SAG support!

BY the way, Mich, I don't care if you did the minimum or did a Million Bucks! You got the ball rolling this time around :D

Hey Tom, do you know which day in June yet? If it doesn't conflict with a couple commitments I already have on the books, I'd like to give it a try.

Good luck with the ride and your fundraising. I'm captaining the Bio-Rad Laboratories team again this year for the Seattle TdC in May. We're aiming to raise $4000 this year between riders at all distance levels; from the 15 mile fun-ride on the MUP to the 100 miler over the hills of Seattle's eastside.

I'll check with my wife. I'm going to another bike-related event the preceding weekend, and will be going on a week long bike trip with our Scout unit starting the 16th.

Being a Type 1 Diabetic myself. I am looking into joining one of the sacramento teams or creating my own. I know a bunch of people that would help out over here in CA.

Go for it Dwighty! TdC is a really fun event and the support is great! The people at the rest stops are also VERY familiar with diabetic issues ;)

Good luck Tom. If I wasn't so slow and out of shape I would consider riding the Brickyard.

I am assuming you are campaigning for a less evasive cure for diabetes than the one I had.:)

There are short rides, and family rides on the track as well. It's a blast and there's live music and lots of activity. You don't have to do a hammerfest to participate. ;)

Make sure to keep bumping this thread up throughout the oncoming months. I don't have anything to give right now, but after the holidays are over, I'm sure I will. Just need a reminder, so I'll make sure to keep my subscription to this thread active. Heck, I might decide to join your team, and ride along. I've been to the track several times as a spectator. It would be cool to actually put some laps down on it.

Tom Stormcrowe

Well, I'm up to $350.00 so far! I also have a team member signed up. I could use another rider or two....or more :D

Tom Stormcrowe
11-26-07, 08:40 PM
And I made $400 as of today! :D

I do not know enough of the landmarks

Tom Stormcrowe

Hey Squegeeboo....

The route is always well marked at the intersections and turns and there are support vehicles patrolling as well as frequent rest stops :D

There will also be route maps.

I was just making a crack about being a tour guide.

I had planned on it for this year, but I ended up having previous commitments, next year shouldn't be an issue though.

Cool! I can tell you, the INdy tour is a blast! I highly encourage you to sign up there in Rochester. :D

Two questions -

1. How banked is the track?
2. Can I pull into the pits, & someone lift me up to change my tires & hand me a water bottle?

I'll have to check my schedule, but you may have a visitor from Missouri headed your way...

Tom Stormcrowe
11-28-07, 08:57 PM
Nice banking, and we'll have support tables there. ;) It's a very very fast, smooth surface!

Cool - just found out the ST. Louis TDC is the week before this one. Now, does anyone know if I ride in two events, do I have to get minimum donations for both?

Tom Stormcrowe
11-29-07, 08:33 PM
I'll check ;)

I know this is a lot to ask....BUT

Do you think there would be places available to camp? I am thinking about making this one of my goals....riding around a track actually sounds fun to me....if I go I would like to ride with your team....SO can I camp in your yard? LOL or some where...I need to keep cost down....

:)

Tom Stormcrowe
11-29-07, 09:53 PM
My yard? If I owned the place, it'd be no problem, but the complex management might take exception ;)

Here's a list of campgrounds, etc.
