Shocking and scary:

I don't know if Mr. McKay got any glimpse of the assailants, but those of you on the Eastside, take care.
I will hope that Mr. McKay recovers rapidly from this.

What a shame. Anytime I hear of a shooting on the Eastside I cringe. The eastside is still a really great place to live and raise a family, but boy is it changing...and in a lot of ways not for the better.
A sad sign of the times is the fact that I'm noticing things like people STEALING shopping carts and leaving them at the bus stop or just on the corner. Cyclists getting shot.
This isn't the eastside that I grew up in.
I'm sad.

That's a frightening story. I hope they find and catch these guys soon. What can people be thinking? They must know that shooting something that powerful at someone will cause damage. I hope the cops treat this with the priority it deserves (attempted murder).
People tell me I'm crazy for riding daily through Georgetown and South Park, but I've never been shot at!

yeah, get well soon. Harsh- I suspect anti-bicyclist backlash, gangbangers passing initiation, or out of control kids.

I have to correct the place where this occurred--it was in West Seattle (where Mr. McKay lives). He was returning home from his workplace in Bellevue.
Still, shocking that anyone would contemplate doing such a thing.

Thanks Dave, I would never have thought to have suggested something like that.
Perhaps someone will come forward with some tip that can help solve this crime.

A friend told me this story last night and it's just shocking. He commented "What, we all wear bullet proofed vests now when we ride?"
I agree it needs to be addressed very seriously. Reward for info...?

Growing up around here it is hard to believe what has happend.
As a teenage, I used to ride to Salt Water Park and dow to Des Moines and to 320th in Federal way. I went everywhere without a care in the world. This was one of the safest places you could live.
I heard about a guy getting beat up just north of the airport on Pac Hwy commuting to work.
He started to carry a Glock w/ a laser sight for protection. About a year later, 4 guys jumped out of the car to repeat the same offense. He aimed the laser sight at them and they jumped back in the car and drove away.
It is so unfortunate that people don't care.

What madness in this world. All my best to Peter and his family.
P.S. Do NOT let my wife see this-she worries quite enough as it is.

It sounds like it was no pellet gun, but a smokeless rimfire of some sort. Maybe a .22 CB. If you hear pops and feel little bee stings, don't assume you're OK because you can still move. Bike riders in particular seem to be popular targets for that sort of sniping.

From another site...Yes!! :
Apparently the Seattle randonneurs have raised over $3000 for a reward already for info leading to the arrest of the schmendricks who did this:
