Northeast - why broadway bikes can suck it. (baltimore)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

i recently had broadway build a set of wheels for my bike. nothing fancy. track hubs and deep V's.

i dropped off the rims and hubs, and asked them to build them w/double butted spokes, etc...

one week and 165 bucks later, they were done.

so, i put about 10 miles on the wheelset, and i start to hear a jingling noise when my bike rolls.

turns out that one of the spoke nipples is rattling around in the front wheel, and, upon further inspection, i realize that about 1/2 of my spokes on the front are LOOSE.

ok, freak occurrance.. whatever, right?

so i take the wheel to broadway, and the guys who built the wheelset are outside smoking. they seem surprised when i tell them whats up, and they tell me to go inside and see "Stu" , who will "take care of it"

Stu spends the next 5 minutes sitting on his giant fat a s s, talking to his co-workers about having a car towed. and since i was on my way to work, i had to make it quick.. i stood around a few more minutes at the register, noticing that stu was avoiding eye contact.

i then turned around and went for the door... as i was about to the door, he asked if he could help me.. "no thanks" and i walked out...

the guys out front asked what happened, and i told them...

one of them then asked me to leave him the wheel, and he would fix it.. "it was built here, its gonna get fixed here"

just as i made it to my car, 450lb stu comes heaving his lard bottom out the door, grabs the wheel from his employee, and shoves it at me. told me i cant have it fixed there...

cliffnotes: overcharged on wheel building, wheel fell apart, boss is lazy, wheel gets fixed elsewhere, broadway loses a customer of many years.
