Mountain Biking - Hayes vs. Avid

Avid Juicy 7 vs. Hayes HFX-Mag Plus

For XC use (some racing, but mostly all-mountain and epic rides), would you spec a new scoot with the top-of-the-line Avids or Hayes? I'm relatively light @ about 150 pounds. I'm torn!

I would get hayes as they are known to be reliable and easy to install etc. I am not a fan of running a product in its first or second year of production. Avid makes killer Mechs does not mean they can do killer hydros :)

Hayes are really good brakes but if I had a choice I would definately try the juicy's. I dont see how they could be bad at all. I had pad adjuster just like the one on the juicy's on a pair of hydraulic rim brakes I had and I loved it.

I'm not sure Avid's had a LOT of time to get the Juicy's through R&D so they should be right, but Hayes is KNOWN to be a good product........ Awww fudge it, I'll stick with my Avid mechs.

Hayes... because they are known to make better parts and stuff... u could always try the avids though... they may be better :)

Haven't they been in R&D forever? When did you first hear about an Avid Hydro in production, 3 to 4 years ago?

Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong either way, but the Hayes Hydros are tried and true. I think I'd give the Avid's a whirl just based on their good reputation alone. Avid knows brakes, that's for sure.
