Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. got for twenty dollars this beautiful conversion bike. Looks like it was somebody's baby so I sank the twenty for it to try to find whoever it belongs to. Stopped by the police station but it was unregistered. Does this sound familiar to you? Help this bike find its rightful owner!

trek 600 series,
fixed gear conversion
red frame
completely covered in blue masking tape (much of this was torn off)
fairly tall; haven't measured but probably in the 50 range

If you are claiming this, be specific about the specs on it: wheels, hub set, seat and post, any details that can identify it.

Think you know who this belongs to? please help them get their bike back!

ALSO:
any suggestions for other ways to locate the owner would be appreciated. A copy of this post is on Chicago's Craigslist. I'm making a "Found" poster (like for a lost dog) to post at bike shops and bars etc. that are popular with cyclists, and look for other forums to copy this post to. Any places you think should be on those lists are good suggestions.

thanks!

chifg.com I will post it there for you in case you arent on the forum. Other than that a lot of people seem to frequent CL, although I dont. That would be a good start.

good looking out.

may not want to be so specific -- you know, so the actual owner can get it and not some ******* trying to score a cheap bike.

edit some details out

someone who has had a trek conversion stolen will be able to tell you more about it for a positive id

Nice work. I found a bike in a canal and posted an add on CL. I got about 10 emails/calls because I wasn't specific enough and never found the rightful owner. On the one hand, if you're too specfic you'll end up giving it to someone who it doesn't belong to or the owner won't be able to provide more specific details (maybe they bought it already converted and don't know what wheels/hubs/seatpost/stem/whatever it has).

I did end up giving away 3 beaters to replace stolen bikes and at least 1 person ended up getting a bike from the local co-op that I sent him to. I think the next time I need to get rid of a couple beaters I'll just post a super generic "stolen road bike found" ad.
