Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Lug Appreciation Pics o' the week, part 2

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Soulcraft, ( http://www.soulcraftbikes.com/index.asp ) the brainchild of 2 former Salsa employees, have been building frames essentially since Salsa was sold to a group of investors. Now, the company is down to 1, Sean Walling. The occasional guest builder in the shop, Ross Shafer, who still enjoys "dabbling" and lugs and such fullfills his own need to be creative with metal. Shafer, also a musician, dabbles in other such crafts as guitar making and crafting high end guitar amps. ( http://six-ninedesign.com/ )
Since Walling was primarily a Tig Welder for Salsa, he wanted to offer a limited edition lugged frame, built by Shafer under the Soulcraft banner, hence the Alma Pura was born. A fixed gear/single speed road bike, the Alma Pura is a clean, well designed frame. The short point lug shorlines are crisp and well crafted.

Ross has been building frames since the mid 70s. He was a fixture at the old Interbike shows in Southern California (and in Vegas until the sale of Salsa) and an innovator that had paved the way for many improvements in the cycling industry and framebuilding specifically. The frame is signed on the toptube with Ross' nickname, "Scoboni".

Enjoy!

drop out angle looks odd.. almost like the bike has 'variable geometry'.

Its just a camera angle issue. The dropout on the full side view is parallel with the ground.

Nice exposure (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/05/us/05bike.html?_r=1&th&emc=th&oref=slogin). Did they call you for a quote? Do you think this will boost attendance? I love seeing bike culture articles in such a widely read paper like the NYT.

In this case, I just want to learn more exclusive information about the bike above.:)

There are two sticky threads for bike pics. I like threads like this (similar to your Tokyo Bikes thread) where you see things you can't see on Google image search. Not to mention the poor discriptions on Flickr, etc.

I love threads like this. They feed my bike obsession.

any chance we could get some pics of the full bike? I'm loving everything but that stem.

There's a link in the post and it has quite a few pics of the bike. There are more pics on the site. Theyre not hotlinked but if you open them in their own window theyll be bigger.

Yes, they called. We ended up chatting for almost an hour. Guess nothing I said was "quote-worthy" tho.

Thanks for taking note.

I think I'm hard-wired to gag at the sight of positive rise.

Other than that though, gorgeous.

Beautiful lugs, but I prefer the forged and polished stems of yore.

Nice, but I really liked the one from last time better. Not only liked it more, I literally admired the work that went into that one. It was a Della Santa with beautiful little red details. Lovely.

Positive rise was probably the customers request, more comfortable for long distance or maybe just a bad back.
