Southeast - Need help reopening New MTB Park in Brooksville FL

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I (Ridge Riders Mountain Bike Association) was contacted by Hernando County a time ago to be part of this exciting new project and I have been talking with the powers that be along the way and we are getting closer and they told me it was ok to let the cat out of the bag and spread the word.
That’s right!! The rumors are true. The wheels are in motion to bring Gran Canyon in Brooksville back. Of course we need support from the cycling community to get involved to help bring back one of the best trails in Florida. As many may recall the Gran Canyon is where it all started in the mid 80’s and some of the first MTB races in Fl were held there.
Hernando County has moved forward in looking at options for obtaining the land and implementing a MTB park which will include XC trails as well as a Free Ride and Dirt Jump area.

How can you help???
For now we need everyone in the cycling community to let Hernando County know of our enthusiasm and impact of the reopening as well as the draw of mountain bikers to the area.

Please send an email with your
support to: StevenD@Hernandocounty.us
If your invloved in a club let em know.

Thanks alot!!!!!!!!!

First. let me say thank you to all who responded to the rumor of the Gran Canyon re-opening. Yes, the rumor is true, we are in the early stages of acquiring the property and returning the site to its former glory. I do want to emphasize that this process is just getting started and for those not familiar with how government works, EVERYTHING is a process.
We are preparing some talking points to take to the Commissioners so that they will see the benefits of having this type of facility in the county. Our Tourist Development Director has begun lobbying efforts to this effect and in the current economic climate, this package needs to be presented in the best light possible. I believe that we can show that having this type of facility can be a boost to both tourism and the local economy, which are obviously great selling points.
At any rate, I want to thank all of you for your enthusiasm, your support, now and in the future. Bear in mind that this could take some time, so please be patient.
Thanks again.
