OK, I am after the following in a couple of kids bikes.

Budget £200 each.
Wheel size 24 inch (so around 9 - 12 year olds).
Disk Brakes front and back.
Ideally 3 or 5 internal gears on the back, but I'd just settle for somewhere between a 3 - 7 speed rear mech. I do not want any front-mech, just more hassle.

Not fussed whether it is no suspension, hard tail or full suspension.

I have searched everywhere, but it just seems kids bikes are limited.

Ideas appreciated.

No ideas here other than to roll your own. I have not exhaustively searched the 24" market but from what I recall they are generally front and rear geared. I also I have not seen anything other than mountain bike or road bikes in that rim size. There could be some other offerings out there, but I just have not seen them. The restriction of no front derailleur with disc brake may be your limiting factor. You could probably find one with a disc and front der., then remove all but the outter chain ring.

eBay will have 24" road bikes and singlespeed bikes on from time to time but nothing with disc brakes. Internal gearing I've never seen on a small bike.

Easy enough to build up your own internal geared kid's bike but it won't be cheap.

IMO, disc brakes are overkill for most adults, more so for kids.

I checked the UK Trek site, only one kid's bike. In the US, Trek offers

Most the time when I look at European bike sites they have so many more models to choose from than over here.

Just checking. You did check out the local jumble stores? I'd consider posting notes in local bike club newsletters describing what you wanted.

Best value, best designed bike for the money.

However, if he's a bit big for 24", then for £249 go to http://www.islabikes.co.uk/bike_pages/beinn26.html

All Islabikes are designed round kids needs and all components matched to their size and physical capacities.

They are light, have excellent quality parts and I don't have anything to do with Islabikes or Isla Rowntree. But several kids who come to my Saturday club have them and think they're wonderful compared with the POS that usually gets sold for kids
