View Full Version : No Frost Yet
Its November and we haven't had freezing temps yet this season. Its been dry too. If this is climate change it isn't too bad for DC cyclists - so far.

I was thinking the same thing...until today. 40mph winds and it's snowing a bit. Riding through downtown Minneapolis with this kind of wind is...um, amusing. The tall buildings create a sort of wind tunnel, making me feel like I'm not acually moving at all. That is until I cross a street and get blasted by the wind coming from the other direction. It's like a little game. How many streets can I cross without getting knocked over? Makes for an interesting ride.
And maybe I'm crazy, but I love it! :D

Are you getting any snow from this storm now? The same wind just hit us this evening, along with rain, sleet and (hopefully) snow tomorrow. I'm currently in Traverse City, about the same latitude as Minneapolis.
I agree with you about the interesting ride part. You probably know from experience that if you're riding on ice in wind like this, you and the bike might literally move sideways in the cross wind. Every time I drive a car, it's the same damn trip. But every time I ride my bike it's a little different... and sometimes it's a real adventure!

I'm thinking that the snow on Monday in Minneapolis didn't even make it all the way to the ground. Not surprising since we didn't have sticking snow until January last winter.
You probably got it worse than we did if you're in Michigan.

It was five below zero f. last time this year. But now we've had warm southern winds for weeks and there's still no snow. I don't remember it being this dry so late in November ever before. It sucks because I studded up three weeks ago.

Nice icebike! How do you like that trailer? i saw one the other day and was wondering about the stability with only one wheel. It looks like it's balanced pretty well, but you never know... oh, I see how it's mounted now. Of course it's stable.
And is that your pet in the background? It looks like it's caged in.

The BOB is great. No effect on stability unless you load it too high. It also has pretty low drag. I really like it.
That's Star there. She's a local pet reindeer. I live a few blocks from her and my commute runs in front of her. She was pretty excited about the snow this morning. The cage is to keep tourists and drunks from trying to climb in and get her. Some PETA idiots tried to lure her out last year and cut a big hole in the fence. Somehow they didn't get the message that reindeer are a domesticated breed. She ignored them.

Although I agree with PETA on a lot of issues, I do think it's quite stupid to free domesticated animals. They don't have the ability to defend themselves in the wild. Their lives turn out much worse. I was wondering what exactly that was...don't see too many reindeer in Minneapolis. :)
