As many of you already know I am a new rider looking for my first road bike. I got mixed reviews about getting a trek 1000. ( i liked it, but i was told by member in the forum that it was not really worth upgrading) I really want a new or used road bike that would be worth upgrading as I progressed as a rider. I am looking to spend 800 to 1200$. New or used even if it were just for the frame. Any suggestions for new/used complete bike or new/used frame. Thanx!

You my friend,, need to look at the '04 Trek 1500. It is the slightly bigger brother to the 1000, only without Sora componentry. You will love it. They can be had for $1000. You can upgrade it to Ultegra deraillers and crank, for around $1200.00.

My local bike store in Seattle has some great sales going on with 2003 bikes. The Trek 2200 is on sale for $1299...Aluminum Frame, Carbon Fork, Simano 105 components. Nice bike! There are also some great Cannondale's and Lemonds in that range too. You should just go test ride a few and see what fits best. That's what I had to do.

Good luck,

Good point LongRider...Didn't think of that. Saw a 1500 at the bike store and it looks pretty nice. Good suggestion!

My Vigorelli just got here today. The thing is far prettier in person, than in pictures. It is a beautiful bike.

Check out the Fuji Roubaix. The 2003 frame is made of their light aluminum. The 2004 uses a heaver aluminum and carbon seat stays. I have the 2003, which I got for just over $900.
