Group Buy - Interest in a Pro-Lite Wheelset Group Buy?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have a contact with Pro-Lite, and had a brief discussion about a group buy around the 1st of the year. Pro-Lite has a full line set of wheels, and his gaining ground in Tri circles. I’d like to set up a small group buy that we could quickly get enough buyers and ship the wheels. I’m thinking a carbon wheel set, I’m not sure if I can offer several different wheel sets or pick one set that everyone would get the same. Anyway, their webiste is:

http://www.pro-lite.net/content/wheels.shtml

Either post here or drop me a PM if you are interested, and in which wheelset. It will be awhile before I can get cost and finalize the details if we can move forward.

What is the price? Also which carbon? They have tubular/clincher, 50mm/38mm. I wouldn't mind some light 38mm clinchers, depending on the price.

I'm just testing the water so to speak, but will have more details in about a month. I'll see if we can get enough to purchase 1 wheel type, but if we can't get enough people, maybe we can get some prices on a couple different sets. Thanks for the interest.

It would depend on the price, but maybe Gavia tubulars. 16 spokes up front makes me nervous though. Are there weight limits on these?

I've seen a combo of a 50 front and 90 rear offered in a road/track compatible set. I'd be interested in that or dual 90s.

Make that +6, any specs on weight for the Gavia clincher. I only saw it for the tubular.

Remember these have internal nipples. Not a huge deal for clinchers, but a real PITA for tubulars.

i did some research and remember reading the clinchers with the metal braking surface were around 1700grams...the full carbon was 100 or so grams lighter. iono how reliable those sites were though

i don't remember where i read it but it was a site selling the wheels.

Is this where it ends? I would think wheels would be the most desirable group buy yet. EVERYONE needs wheels!

When you get the prices, can you post them here? There would be a lot more interest if you could quote prices.

Hey guys, sorry for the delay. I finally spoke to the distributor. The Gavia 38mm clinchers are no longer available, but he did have 4 or 5 sets of demo wheels. These have some use, but are warranted by the distributor against manufacturing defects. Cost is $600 shipped.

38 mm Clincher Rim is designed of carbon fiber with aluminum brake surface
Shimano Hub
20 Spoke Front, 24 Spoke Rear
Bolzano Rear Single billet CNC machined Hub
Front 790g, rear 990g (clincher) - as published by Pro-Lite

http://www.weberwoodworking.com/bikeforums/GaviaClincher.jpg

He can also include a pair if Michelin Pro2Race in Black/Gray for $60 if you are interested.

He will also discount current new wheels, so if there is something else you are interested send me a PM.

You can check out his web-site and wheels available at:

http://www.pro-deal.net/prolite/wheelsets.htm

Let me know, for the Gavia first come first serve. Please PM to confirm.

Thanks

Find me some 50mm clinchers or deeper. Don't care on material. Something not in the same price range of Zipps would be nice.
