Tomorrow I will send out a payment for a used PT Pro hub. I need to get it laced up when I get it. I may be able to get it laced to a Hed Jet 90 rim for a very fair price, which would probably be worth it in the long run.
You can not believe my excitement. I have been waiting a year to get a power meter. I really believe this is a big step to biking under 5:20 at IM Wisconsin next year.

Do you train on a Jet 90? Seems like too deep a rim for training to me. I would put it on something like a 404 or get it laced to a Open Pro rim.

Assuming the resulting wheel is robust enough to hold up under training mileage, why not train on it? If you can only afford one PT, there's some value to having it for both training and racing.

404 Clinchers can take the heat of training + racing.

All right, I have a little more time to elaborate. If I were given a choice,I'd ride a SRM crankset with the my mavics for training and my Hed 3s for racing. Thats a no go, too expensive. Ergomo? Still to pricy.
I can get my hub laced to a Hed rim for a fraction of those prices. A jet 90 rim is similar to an Open pro rim, with a 90mm deep fairing. It is a slower rear wheel than my Hed 3, barely, but still significantly faster than many other options.
The greatest training tool known to man is now in my possesion. After feeling the sheer girth of the hub, I ave decided to get it laced onto a cxp22 rim. I'll probably get a disc cover for it and use it in occasional races until I can afford a lighter hub.
I just need to figure out how I can get the thing built up. I work 8-5. The people I would ask to build it up are open 9-5. Hmmmm. May need a vacation day or long lunch or something.
It is winter, people tend to get sick during the winter. Just don't do it on a Friday or Monday.
