Road Cycling - info on team miyata 12speed

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I just bought this bike used a month or so ago and am interested in learning more about it (now that its too late).
its a 62cm team miyata 12speed with indexed shifting and the remaining original components are all dura-ace...
mainly I'm just interested in peoples general opinions about this brand/model and if they have any guess as to when it was made, or how to find out for sure.
thanks
Can you post some pics? Full profile of the drive side and closeups of the fork crown and seat lug would help.
sorry no pictures of the actual bike, but i have found some of a very similar one.
the web page is
http://www.bikecult.com/works/archive/myatatm.html
differences follow:
my bike is 12 speed, not spline, different logo on front black post, the brake lines are internal (not sticking up out off of the handlebars), the front derailer is shiny (chrome?) metal not black, different pedals obviously, plus other silly stuff.
i'm not too knowledgable on all the techinal aspects, so i could be missing stuff, but thats the best i got for now.
thanks

I've heard only good things about the Miyata, even form Italophiles. I can't remember any specifics though, I'm sure you'll like it
If you ride it and and YOU like, that's all that counts

Team Miyata, made in Japan. Look inside the fork steerer tube, if there are splines there then the entire frameset is splined. Miyata has a track history of introducing technology without putting it on the decals. If you take out the bottom bracket you can feel up into the seattube for the splines as well. Regardless of it having splines Miyatas were build to be durable bikes. They arent the lightest but theres nothing tougher. They were painted with 7-layers of paint and primer. Back when they were 12 speeds I believe the retailed for $1200. When it was made is easy. Whats the first year Dura-ace was available with indexed shifting? 1985? When did Shimano shift over to 7-speed? My guess is '85 or '86.
I have a Pro Miyata frameset sitting in my closet right now. Its the only road frameset they made with chrome seatstays and a chrome fork with a sloping crown. I also have a picture of myself with Mr. Miyata that was taken when he visited the store I worked at.
Stupid Miyata facts. They made rifles. They made cars. They made the fire extinguishing system for Disney Japan. The sued Mazda over the name Miyata. I believe Mazda removed the 'Y'.
The bike will last forever.....
Like Pat said, if you ride and like it.....
thanks for your info, fun to hear more about this bike.
now i like it even more.
