Bicycle Mechanics - Rapidfire shifters & ATB brakes on bullhorn / TT bars? [PICS]

This is something I've asked in the past and was told in various ways that it's not possible...but then I saw this in San Francisco. It can be done!

I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice on how to go about it. I notice the Ritchey logo, looks like one of their time trial models, so perhaps this guy has a road stem as well? If that's the case perhaps it's just a matter of hacking on the brakes and shifters.

I actually found a few 25.4mm bullhorn bars - anyone know of some good places to find more of these? I'm looking for a more flat bullhorn, not one that's sloped downwards so harshly.

I don't see why it cannot be done as long as you use the right diameter bars.
Heck, I've mounted Campy Ergo shifters on risers and moustache bars before....:)

I don't know about small diameter bullhorns but I carefully used a Dremel tool and enlarged the clamps on a set of XT shifters and brake levers to fit a set of Profile bullhorn bars. It worked very well. Profile also makes a set of bars for the stoker of a tandem that are basically a bullhorn with no drop.

So did you basically just enlarge the entire inner diameter of the clamps with the dremel? I came across a local SF based fabricator that does 25.4 flat track bars, gonna order some tonight :)

Have you considered just using some bar ends on a flat bar? It would get you the same hand positions and depending on the model maybe even more. Or is this more of a look you are going for?

I have those shifters on my '83 Trek, only thing I had to do was use a little longer mounting bolt. I have older drop bars on it which are almost the same diameter as the mtn bike bars I got the shifters from. I am using Shimano aero brake levers. The shifters are mounted near the stem clamp.
They are handier than bar ends or downtube shifters, I think. They are a little bulky though.

25.4 should be easy to find in bullhorns; that's the standard Japanese clamp diameter for non-oversize road bars. 26 is the weird "high end" Italian size.
