View Full Version : Really big helmet

I figured that A&S was a good place to start with this question:

Who makes a good helmet for people like me with really large skulls?

I have a Giro Atlas II, which is apparently the go-to helmet for the big-headed, and while it's big enough it's just ... not ... quite ... right.

My conventional hat size is 7-5/8 to 7-3/4. Suggestions? Thanks.

I have a similar sized head, and also struggle to find helmets that fit. 'One size fits all' just doesn't apply to egg-heads like us!

I have a Limar 707 extra large:

Comfy enough, although I haven't tried many others as I can't fit them on my head. I note from LImar's own (very annoying, Flash driven) website that they also make a helmet called 'big one' made specifically for large heads.

My head is at least a 7 3/4 and I have a Bell helmet that fits easily. I can't remember what model it is, but it was a cheaper one. I guess that was no help. :D

I'm fairly thick skulled, and a Bell Metropolis fits me. Might be another one to try out. The trouble I've had (after tracking down a large enough helmet to try on) has been finding one that was the right shape. Those other people with tiny heads can adjust the fit with naught but the little stick-on foam pads that come with the helmet. That solution doesn't nearly scale up to the adjustments needed by us large headed people; for we have giant brains.

The Jack in the Box guy seems to have a huge one (and he's extra safe by wearing it all-the-time!)

The original post is about helmet size, not helmet use. The guy is asking a friendly question.

Why not hold back from the anti-helmet talk? It's like getting on the anti-bike lane soapbox every time a thread mentions a right-hook.

Suggestion to the OP: ask your questions in a different subforum, like Commuting.

I have about the same sized head and have had good luck with Bell.

It was a relief for me, b/c I have yet to find a baseball cap that fits my head. And in high school, no lacrosse helmet fit.

Like, that Jack-in-the-Box guy is even worse than Ronald (you-know-who)

:roflmao:

(but I guess that check is for a good cause)

Mike Myers is still working on his "Scottish" accent. Hasn't changed, still sounds like Shrek or Fat Bas-tard.

Finally a good looking helmet for the extra large of head! Specs: Weight: 9.2oz/260 grams. Vents: 17. Size: Universal Large Fit: 58-65cm / 22.75-25.6in. Certification: CPSC.
Recommended. No connection to Bell or Amazon standard disclaimer.

Bell makes a model called the "King Head". The older versions were plain jane looking, the newer ones are much nicer http://www.genuineaccessories.com/KingHead/KHBicKng.htm

We're talking melon head big. I use one over my baklava and knit woolie.
