General Cycling Discussion - I need WIDE (4E) cycling shoes. Suggestions.

I'm a mutant, I admit it. I can't find wide enough shoes to save my life.
I presently own a pair of lake size 44-2E. Unfortunately, I need 4E.

These will be used for mainly off road with SPD clipless

Get Speedplay Drillium platform pedals and forget about clipless. Great pedals and you can wear any shoes you want. bk

I 'suffer' the same 4E curse. I take Lake shoes, slather them inside with mink oil, soak 'em in hot water and stuff the ball with rags [really jam them in], and let 'em dry. Little by little they stretch some. I s'poze one of those wooden shoe stretchers would work, too. I bet we share the lifelong experience of shoes that simply don't fit.

Have you tried the Mega by Sidi? I have particular feet also (wide), and I have found them to be the most comfortable.

Try the specialized bg comp spd shoe. I have 4e feet size 12 and they fit me good.
I also have hammer toes and the shoes never give me a problem with top toe rub.

sidi mega - worked for me with small (UK13G/US14EE-EEE/EU48-50 extra wide) feet

I wear 4E and took a a chance on some extra wide Lake shoes. They fit fine for me.

One word - sandals! ;)

OR take them to a shoe cobbler and have them professionally stretched. Cost about 6 dollars for me.

I would suggest you try on a pair of Sidi Mega width shoes at a store. I wear a 13 EEE and the 48 Megas are a little loose on me.

You know, I'm a 'glass half full' kind of coyote. See, the gods provide us unambiguous signs and I always fig'erd wide feet and Neanderthal legs was a sign that in a tight situation my best course of action was Swift Egress Across Rough Territory [aka 'Feet Don't Fail Me Now'].

I'm a 10 1/2-11 EEEE and I have a lot of difficulty finding shoes (much less cycling cleats) that fit. I thought New Balance used to make a cycling shoe for Look or Trek several years ago, but I don't know if that came in the extremely wides.

I have a brand new pair of Cortez size 45 that is a 4E width if anyone is interested. New in the box and never been use. rmwun54

I have 10.5 /45 EUR EEE feet, and I was wondering how the lake wides are. I was specifically thinking about the MX 60/90 line.

In a lifetime of hiking, walking, running, backpacking, and cycling I've found that hot water alone actually >>>[I]shrinks<<< shoes. . .unless of course you "wear them dry". That's why I added the bit about mink oil. [Caveat: Careful with the mink oil on high end leather backpacking shoes; you'll turn them into soft/supple $225 house slippers!!!]

...and generally oiling too much will rot the stitching and loosen any gluing (At least that's what happened to the one and only pair of boots I oiled).
