Well, I figured to throw this out on a few forums I frequent and see what advice or opinions fly...

I am currently moving into a bigger apartment, same complex (same building actually), just bigger.

Well, there was a snafu and the unit wasn't ready...I was told everything was A-OK other than a week's delay (I'll be moving in this thursday). I asked if I had to pay anything on the apartment I'm in (like rent, which wasn't due since I was moving out on the first), and he (one of the apartment's office staff) said "nope".

Well, comes today, and I found a note (after apt closing time) that I owe for this month's rent, late fees, and such. I'm willing to consider this a lack of communication with the apartment management (a newbie employee handled my move), but I am wondering if anyone else went through this and how or what it ended up as.

I have no issue paying for the time spent in here, but I'd rather not get shafted here either, which it feels like honestly....that and throwing cash for this move upfront has been murder...I'll have to borrow cash to pay this off....grr...

I'm going to go in tomorrow after work right away to iron this stuff out....hopefully they see things my way.

Thanks for listening, and all opinions, stories, and advice are more than appreciated.

Well.....wouldn't that be still consdered your "last months rent"? Or was that transferable to the new apt?

That's what I was thinking...I hope it's just this management company screwing up and costs me as little as possible.

Evisceration and fire combine to form your solution.

I would first get "HE" and bring him to the office of management and let him explain to them what he told you, just to see if "HE" would lie to your face, and the fact that you might get away without paying the rent. Try it just to prove your point and to let yourself know that what "HE" told you was what he said and that you're not nuts. Also next time get the name of the person who gives you such information, it always help to have a name. ; ).

If you are paying rent on the larger apartment to which you do not have access...............
You are required to pay rent on the smaller apartement as well.....................
I am no lawyer, but you can see where I am going.

If he is paying rent for a larger apt and has no access to it because of the fault of the management, (be it miscommunication or structural), they are then required to supply some kind of housing for him since rent was advanced.

Yeah, I would be like, "Where's my goddamn suite at the [insert fancy hotel name here]?"

Exactly. I kept names out of it because it wasn't needed for the advice side of things.

That's pretty much the angle I was looking at it (I'm residing in one place, why am I paying for two?)...so I'll find out once my workday ends and I get my butt over there (I get off work 2 hours before the apt office closes up...takes 15mins to get home...not bad...I might even leave slightly earlier today if I can get coverage).

I am with X here. Someone needs to die, in a very public, creative and humiliating way. I mean we are talking about Casa de Cat here right? If you resort to fire, do it a night. It is much prettier then.

And in the future, get everything in writing, then it is very easy to prove your point.

I normally would create a giant skewer out of broken carbon fiber frames and the souls of Muscovy ducks long gone, but I need to get this move out of the way....then play betty homemaker....basically too much work to be my warped self right now.

...I did get some constructiveness out of my lack of sleep last night though...I am one step closer to finishing the game Evidence....my god that game is hard as hell. I'm to the point now that I have the password to Phoenix's login, but now I have to figure out the username....something to do with Isle of Osiris.

Go into the office and discuss gaming strategy with them in depth. That would make me kill myself in a creative and humiliating way! Can you pass the souls of those Muscovy ducks please? Just as soon as I finish putting on this lingerie and lipstick I am gonna leap onto a flaming skewer of carbon fibre.

It sounds like it's just a bureaucratic screw up. But, if you play your cards right, you may be able to get a months free rent or something along those lines.

Good call, I already have a heavily discounted second month from the previous screwups ($600 off, it's a $780/mo apt)..might as well go for the gold. I'm pretty good at negotiating once the "oh s**t" effect wears off (which it has for the most part, now I am just sleep deprived and cranky...which is probably the best thing for me, I'm one of those that gets steely nerved when pissed off).

Honestly, the guy that handled this is really nice, but he needs a good limparm smack upside the head.

...oh and for Muscovy duck souls....there's hundreds of very large, very hostile Muscovies (as in big enough and mean enough to chase off german sheperds) out here....just sacrifice a few to Cthulu and you'll have your souls.

Well folks, it has ended well.

It was a case of the agent not telling management what was going on, and management just did what they always do...so that got ironed out, totally painless.

I'm going to get some sleep....I won't have internet after tomorrow's move until Friday night, so see you all later!

THanks folks!
