Hi! I thought I'd leave an official introduction. I'm a SAHM to three girls. Who are 3.5, 23 months, and 7 weeks. I started running a week ago but have been having problems with my knees. I'm hoping that I can stay active with biking without the stress on my joints that I'm getting with running.

Anyway, one of the reasons why I found this site is because I was looking for information on family biking and solutions for riding with little ones. I'm hoping, at the very least, to be able to involve my eldest in bike rides. Eventually I'd love to get all the wee one involved, but I'm thinking I'll need to wait until the littlest is strong enough to ride with a helmet. So we have a few months yet. ;)

Hello cgranola, yes, it's apparently best to wait until the youngest is around a year old before she's ready to hit the road in a trailer :) .

Cycling is a great way to be active without making those knees hurt (although don't go up too many big hills!).

Welcome to BF!

It took me a while to figure out that SAHM meant "stay at home mom". Apparently, I'm not very bright. :o Regardless, welcome to BikeForums! You'll find plenty of information (as well as some great folks) about family cycling here.

Thanks for the replies. Sorry about the SAHM confusion. lol. I forget that not everyone up on "mommy" internet lingo.

I stopped by a bike shop the other day and checked out their tag-along (?) bikes for kids. I think that would be the best set up for my eldest (3.5) and I to ride together. I figure by the time my youngest is old enough to go out with us on family rides (we're waiting until she's at least 18 months) my middle child will be big enough to ride in the tag-along and my eldest should be able to keep up on her own bike.

Clear as mud? :D

Anyway, those are my long term goals. My short term goal, on the other hand, is to get my knee healed and to get outside on a bike by myself. I'm thinking that I won't push the family riding until closer to spring. Plus that will give me time to save up for a tag-along.

(Anybody know the real word I'm supposed to be using? Tag-along really doesn't sound right. LOL.)

Clear as spring-fed water in an alpine lake to me!

Tag-along is actually the correct name, although I've seen 'backwheeler' used too. You won't confuse anyone here with the term tagalong.
