I would like tubes but the cost is prohibitive.

300-400 dollars is my price range. so what's the next best thing.

some solid state amps actually sound pretty good. how does it sound to you? that's the most important part!

he's right tho, new Fender tube amps are all over a grand.

Do you really need 100 watts? If you don't mind a little less power, I suggest getting a used Peavey Classic 30.

Great tube sound (30 watts tube, that's like 60-ish solid), and you can just run it thru the PA for bigger gigs.

+1 on tube amps delivering twice the sound at half the wattage rating
