Mountain Biking - Poll: How many biking vacations do you take a year?

If you do take a trip, where do you go?

2 trips this year for me. One was just this August to the Sawtooth mountains and Sun Valley, ID.

Next trip is to Moab, UT over Thanksgiving Break with the same group of friends. This will be my first slick rock biking adventure.

One, Lutsen in Northern MN, a smallish mountain but fun. Great scenery. Do it every year in the fall. This year in Oct. I have been to Whistler one year, but would like to get to Moab some day to try that out.

I used to take shorter vacations, i.e. long weekends, where my wife and I would head to the mountains of NC and do some camping and mtn biking. We would take as many as 6 per year. Now, she's been sick, and I've spent all my vacation time going to the Dr.'s So, I'm now down to maybe 1 or 2. However, these are also just long weekends.

Thanks, she's been sick for about 3 years now, and has been pretty close to being bed ridden for the last 3 months. The Dr.'s still don't know what's wrong, and she's getting weaker and weaker. This is such a change from a woman who was a Type "A" personality, rode 5-6 days a week, raced mtn bikes and was getting into Tri's to a person who needs help getting up to go to the restroom!

Makes you appreciate what you DO have! At least she didn't die last year!

None...I do have people asking about me doing a week or two long stay on the shore for some riding but I keep putting it off. Someday I will travel for some riding though :)

Man thats rough. Especially for someone young (I assume in your age group) I wish her the best and hope the docs figure out wht could be wrong.

I'm getting ready to head off to Idaho to check out some of the cool trails (MTB and road) they have in the Panhandle. I rent either an MTB or Road bike whenever I am down in San Diego about once a year and explore. I will be doing a ride from Selah, WA to Everett, WA (180m)in 2 weeks on the MTB most of it on double track road, if not I'll be on pavement. It will take me from the Deserts of Central Washington up into the Alpine regions across the Cascades down into the Snoqualimie Valley ending at Port Gardner Bay part of the Puget Sound so I will experiance a little bit of everything. Thanksgiving will be a road trip in Baja Rosarita to Enscinada R/T with my brother and friends. Next year more and different, I try not to do too much of the same thing twice when it comes to bike vacations.

well it depends on what a "trip" is... i answered if it's 3 days or more:
* April 4-day MTB trip to Lake Garda
* May 4-day MTB trip to Lake Garda
* May 3-day MTB Guide training
* May 3-day MTB trip to Dolomites
* June 2 week MTB and rock climbing trip to Verdon France (with 1 day Lake Garda and 2 days Dolomites on the way back)
* July 3-day MTB Guide Training
* Aug 9-day MTB TransAlp tour + 2 days MTB at Lake Garda = 11 days
* Oct 3-day MTB trip to Lake Garda

plus a ton of day and weekend MTB trips...

oh yeah and the bad news: i check last week and as of NOW i have already used ALL of my 30 days of annual vacation for 2003! damn! well, i'll have to figure out some way to add in a few days, because having only holidays for the next 4 months is not going to work (Sept-Dec)... but i'm probably changing jobs so i can hopefully swing that somehow... (plus i gotta visit my parents for Christmas)

P.S. i didn't include my ski touring, snowboarding and mountain climbing trips... (although i've had fewer big mountain climbing trips this year - as of yet, no BIG mountains, but i think i will do a technical rock ridge route on Grossglockner in September - possible on a weekend)... or my "cultural" trips like my 2 week trip to Russia last January... i can never again have the standard American 10 days of vacation per year - how lame! (sorry i really don't mean to seem like i'm gloating, but i really don't understand why Americans put up with so little vacation - i had 10 days for my first 2 years or so and then i switched to consulting and set my own "vacation" meaning unpaid time off. now i live in Germany which is EVEN better as i get PAID for all that time off!)

i mean whistler's cool and all... but do something different. ride some different terrain, eat some different food, speak a different langauge (ok, not as easy as in Europe). as i've offerred before, you're welcome to visit and we could check out Lake Garda, the Dolomites... one of my buds from Oregon who now lives in Chicago is coming for 10 days in October - we'll be here in Germany/Austria and then heading to Lake Garda. and i _will_ come visit Whistler again some day (maybe it'll take 3 years, but it'll happen)

I've heard there is some great riding in Moab Utah. I plan on going there for my high school graduation. Check it out.
