I need to have a bike shipped across country from Eugene, Oregon. Does anyone have some first hand experience with any specific bike shops in Eugene and can give me a suggestion on which shop to use? Secondly, beyond being sure that the shop will do a good job of packing, are there any heads up type of things that I need to know or prepare for. Thanks for any info!

I was told by a a friend that work at Fedex that if you ship a bike, pack it with newspaper so tight that you feel comfortable standing on the box.

Get the insurance. Have your LBS appraise the bike and then photograph it. Odds of a claim are good and getting money is difficult.

don't discard the box post ship until you are positive there is no damage. Shippers require the evidence that they f'd your bike while in transit.

If I had to ship a bike, I would tear down to bare frame and ship in 2 boxes.

I live in Eugene and know the bike shops fairly well (I think) but don't have first hand experience with having them ship a bike. That being said, one of the better bike shops in town is Hutch's on Charnelton. I've also talked to the owner of Blue Heron Bikes on 13th and she said she's shipped many bikes.

You might try posting your question on the regional forum for the Oregon.
