My first ticket was for going 17 in a 15 driving around the campus loop (SCHOOLZONE!) as I was moving out for the summer. That cop was a *******.

All it was blocking was a little bit of the garden stat, was still perfectly readable.

Texas changed their plate frame law recently. As long as it doesn't cover any of the writing
its ok. Im not sure if it includes the slogan at the bottom that says "we'll kick the other states asses"

Wait a minute... this happened in Jersey? It's not as if you can't tell where the plates are from if you can't read the slogan. Plus I've never liked NJ's slogan. Something like "it's not ALL urban" is more fitting.

Sounds like the cop had a bad day or a poor excuse to check out your whip! Seriously though its common practice to pull you for a bs law like the plate frame if you seem sketchy or he/she is just curious. Normally you can get faulty equipment tickets thrown out by presenting the DA proof that you got it fixed, but I don't think you want a receipt from a shop saying they removed a plate frame....

I did not know that. I know when the law first came out it used some vague wording. It didn't say "words", so it was left open as to whether it applied to all of the pictures (space shuttle, cowboy, moon) that are on the newest plates.

As far as dealerships putting them on... yes... and you can get ticketed for it. ;) Same thing with no front plate... dealerships don't always put the front on (especially sports cars), but that's illegal in TX too.

When the story first broke in TX, I saw a newscast about the huge amount of money and wasted gold plate frames that the local Lexus dealers couldn't use :D

It's a hard line to draw, cause anything on the plate can make it more difficult to read since it won't have a clear area around it.... so they write you up for any of it ;)

That sucks considering I see people with license plate covers the basically obscure the entire plate at all angles unless you're directly behind it.

Ive known several corvette drivers with no front plate who have never been hassled.

Yeah, I drove a lowered, loud, sport truck with no front plate for YEARS with no problem... got hassled once in a small town on a road trip (and once while hanging around a local street racing spot) and made a removeable bracket for road trips and nights when they'd be looking for a reason to pull me over. :D

I've seen vettes get nailed hard for that (given this particular person is quite an ass, so I'm pretty sure he pissed off the cop).

My Mustang had no front plate holder, just mount holes....my fix: a plate of polycarbonate/lexan...mount the plate to the polycarbonate by the bottom screws, mount the plate through the polycarbonate to the car with the top screws. If you use a rubber gasket to minimize road noise, you can have a very stable plate without using that fugly plastic POS plate holder.

And in most states the "bubble" covers are illegal since they often interfere with camera devices.
