Fifty Plus (50+) - How often do you look?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I try to look at the scale every morning and set a +3 lb control limit, if I am 3lbs over my target it's time to cut back for a few days.
Also try to look every morning,,, don't always...sometimes days apart. I am always looking to see if I have lost any...however most of the time i have NOT lost any............but sometimes I have and I feel good
The wording's not quite right in the poll, but I chose Never. The perfect choice would have been "Never, I just plain don't care".
If I wanted for find out my weight, I'd have to go out and buy a scale. Or maybe wait until the next county fair and go to the Guess Your Weight booth. It's really that far off my radar.
I monitor my girth instead. In the summer I like to stay in my 32" waist pants. In the winter I'll blimp out to the 33 inchers.

It's futile to keep track of daily weight, as there are too many reasons why weight can go up or down overnight to make any difference. To gain a pound in one day, one needs to consume 3500 MORE calories than what they burn that day. That could mean consuming, say, 5000+ calories in a day!! Does anyone do that, except 18-year-old high school football linebackers?

I use an old, familiar belt, and check which notch is comfortable. That's how I gauge my fitness.

I prefer to gauge my weight by how my clothes fit, too. I weigh in maybe once a week, twice a month -- as long as my clothes fit, I don't really care.

I'm on Weight Watchers so I weigh at least once a week. I'm trying to lose that last 10 lbs and its really been tough because I look and feel so much better (I've lost 33 Lbs) that I've been slipping and not following the program as close as I should so instead of losing I'm really maintaining the weight I've gotten to. I have to get with the program and lose that last 10 which is gonna be tough with the holidays coming up but the scale is my reminder to stay with it so I guess I'm going to be obsessed till I lose the last 10 then its gonna be a once a week thing

Not if you use a bit of statistics to calculate a moving average, and trend lines over the recent past...basically, the same kinds of "smoothing" calculations used in stock market analysis, scientific research, etc.
I like to race (USCF, triathlons, and duathlons), so keeping my weight under control is important to me. Plus, I've always enjoyed data and statistics, and find motivation in the trend numbers. After doing it with a spreadsheet for a few years, I created my "WeightWare (http://www.weightware.com)" program to make the data entry and number crunching easy and fast.

Never for myself - but I have to take light aircraft and helicopters to visit offshore oil installations, and the pilots have to know total passenger weights - so we all get weighed before boarding
1985 to 87 in Indonesia, me and my bag was 'enam enam' 66 kilos
Currently, I'd be 'enam delapan' 68 kilos. I'll take that as ok for a 20 year gain;)
Significant Other tells me to eat more. No wanna, but I appease by chugging what the Bavarians describe as 'liquid bread'

Hardly ever look at the scale. No reason to, since in the last 10 years or so, my weight has only varied by 2-3 lbs. I did watch it closely maybe 5-6 months ago, got some sort of stomach virus and lost a fair amount of weight. Watched it to see how quickly I could get back to normal weight.

Scales are not allowed at my house and are like Krypronite to my wife. Although she is only a little pudgy, she refuses to weigh even at doctor's offices. I've never had a weight problem myself. Must have been the cigarettes.
I've noticed they don't make pants buttons nearly as sturdy as they used to. Mine keep popping off. What's up with that?

I have been afraid to for the last 10 days. We just got back from a trip to Germany and the Czech Republic. The fatty food and Beer. It was a caloric disaster. I have been riding every day. Why does the food binges have to interfere with our cycling. My belt buckle had taken in about two notches, after the Summer cycling season. Cycling every day, think I am beginning to loose some of the affect of that bratwurst, etc.

If I happen to pass a public scale and I'm in the mood.

Pretty much every Friday morning but I also put more stock now in how my clothes hang on my frame. Mine, not my bike's. I've had a goal to get back under 190 and I want to see it when it happens. More a mental thing than anything else. Beyond that, I see the Doc every 3 or 4 months and use that as my "official" weight.
After going from 235lbs in my mid 30's to my current 153lbs @ 52, I do watch the scale, every morning after the shower. I will occcasionally weigh myself before and after long (50mi+) rides to be sure I hydrated and ingested enough not to drop the weight too much.

As a Former Fat Person I step on the scale every morning which also the "Body Fat by Electrocution" calculation. If it starts creeping up past the red line, I cut back on eating and up the excersise for a few days. I'm a Data Analyst by profession, I want as many data points as possible :D

+1 on the hydration calculation. Takes the guess work out of post workout re-hydration.
Do it in metric and you don't even need to make the pounds:quarts conversion: 1 Kilo = 1 Litre.

Since my 34" waist jeans have blossomed into 38" jeans....I track
the weight pretty closely. I know for each 7 lb loss I loose 1/2"+ off
my waist. I'm into 36" jeans comfortably now and striving for the 34's by
next season.
