Although I have bicycled only in my own home country, it would be a blast to ride in one of my bikes' home countries (Austria, France, and Italy).

Relatively speaking, my cycling travels are quite unremarkable.

Great trips through the Puglia region of Italy during the summer of 2006 and through the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria this past summer. Both trips were with my wife and teenage son and daughter.

Quite a lot of places, I'm delighted to say

UK, where I lived till 25 or so, and again 33 to 43. Bikes for errands, fun, and commuting in London
France - commuting in Paris where I lived for a couple of years. Many Tandem and Single bike holidays
USA - commuting in Washington DC, NYC and SF, and playing around in the people's republic of Santa Cruz
Abu Dhabi - commuting on a Moulton folder in 1980 - quite the eccentric
Jakarta, Indonesia - commuting, and hanging with the triathlon group, 1985 to 87
South Africa - rented a bike during a 6 week consulting trip a few years ago, enjoying Cape Town
Finland and Sweden - summer 2005 tour from Helsinki to Stockholm
Denmark - this summer's tour from London to Copenhagen
Bahrain - commuting, and trying to keep up with the sporty wheelers

Ain't life grand?

Best 1 week spent on vacation (Sept 2006) in my 69 years was here:

Daily riding for three different skill levels and daily activities/tours (San Marino etc) for my non-cycling wife. She wants to go back. Absolutely wonderful folks.

YMMV.

Mainly ride in my Home Country of UK but Trips to France will count as Europe I suppose.

Now as to Riding in the Antarctic- No- But when I was in the Forces I went to the edge of The Arctic and yes- I did jump on a bike To get around our Base camp. Only 1/2 mile at a time but does that count?

That counts by me!

Was that Norway NordCapp?

I have a Norwegian friend, who did Norwegian national service. Any problem he experiences, he says 'It's not as bad as Nordcapp'

It wasn't Norway- It was North of Iceland and on the Edge of the Arctic but no idea if I look at the map as it is all the same colour with no towns. I was a Rock climbing Instructor and it was just part of the Snow and Ice Training for the sqaddies. All I can remember about the bike was that if You got on this thing- It worked. If you got in a Truck- It probably wouldn't start. I can remember the Bike was a Hercules with Centre pull rod Brakes and it was Painted in Camouflage Black and Green. Yea- I Know camouflage colours but if you painted it White- We would have lost it.

I did go to Norway on a Nato Exercise- But was lucky enough to be in the boxing team at the time. They took one look at me on Ski's and decided I would be transferred to transport. Drove a 1/2 track for the duration of the exercise. They felt that there was less chance of me getting damaged by driving a vehicle than by learning to Ski. And Norway was Cold. And as to wearing Cotton- I wore everything I had in the Kit bag- All at the same time.

Modified my poll to read Antarctica- Counting the Arctic as the same.

That sounds like a wonderful vacation. Are there tough hills on the tours? Is the traffic scary? I ask because I know that Italy has a lot of narrow roads through hilly countryside, and Italian drivers are not generally known for their patience. What is "YMMV"?

Well I have the ambition to tour overseas on the bike but unless I win the lottery it's unlkely to happen.
So far Wife and I have managed two trips to Tasmania to tour the Midlands and the East Coast and we will return again for the West Coast as we are gluttons for punishment.

We know and admire the exploits of Andrew and Joanne. Take a look at where2pedalto.com in the journals section. Now thats the sort of ride I'd like to do.

Albany is a great place, I was cycling through there on the way to Esperance and up to Norseman for the Nullarbor a few weeks ago.
Now in Adelaide.

where have I cycled??

I tried to get a lift off the Argentinian Air Force from Ushuaia to Antarctica to cycle up the runway and come back but the weather was too bad, I was snowed-in in Ushuaia for 3 days due to roads being too icy and therefore closed over Mont Olivia.

I drive a truck, and when i was an "over the road" driver i rode in a lot of places all of N.A. Never had time to research and rides usually just stopped at a truck stop and rode local roads. i drive locally now and although have more time to ride, less variety.

Sorry to have missed you George. If we'd known you were coming through you could have stayed with us.
All the best on your continued ride. Do you have a web site?
