Framebuilders - What is this style joint called?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

This kind, where the seat stays are joined to the seat tube and top tube:

Is there a term for this?
Thanks in advance.

Sexy, but thats all I know.
GT made and still makes many frames with this joint. I've heard it referred to as the "triple triangle".
Oh, and please please!! show more of that Yamaguchi. He is a god.

My 1960s Columbias also feature this style joint, though it not very apparent in the photo (but you can still see it):

They also both feature a mono chainstay, which is pretty cool for such an old bike.

Called "triangular truss" by Tim Paterek. noting the third triangle formed and that canti mounting becomes complicated. Lots of ways to attach the stays.
Yes, more Yamaguchi!

Veteran framebuilders usually call it the "Hellenic" style- no, it's not Greek, it's named for a Brit builder from the 20-30's named Fred Hellens. But I'll bet it even predates him.

So I guess my next question should be, does it do anything?
I understand that it gives each seat stay approximately 100% more area to be attached to, but won't most of the stress just go to the first joint with the seat tube anyway? Although I guess it also adds bracing to the joint between the seat and top tube.
Has anybody here built a frame like this?
