Classic & Vintage - cinelli track bike on craigslist

"To those interested: It's an older Cinelli track bike, bought used in Trexlertown, Pa around 1995 the frame is definitely older (probably late 70's or early 80's). Definitely Cr-Mo, maybe SLX or SX, Cinelli markings on BB. I just looked at it again, the frame is 50cm C-T, not 51cm. The drop outs are straight back (track style) The crankset is Campy track, Look pedals, Campy NR seatpost, Cinelli bars and stem, wheels and seat are Japanese. I used it as a fixed gear bike for cadence when I lived in NJ. Bike's paint (not original) was scratched while being moved down here. Otherwise it's in very good condition. Bike has less than 500 miles on it since I purchased it (1995), none since 1998.

What do you think? fair price? Maybe not a cinelli? It's going to be at a yardsale, so no seeing it early or info emails...

I think you need to go take a look with cash in hand.

yea I won't be the only one...the above craiglist ad was in responce to an apparent flood of
non- requested emails sent after he posted his first ad, which had even less info about the bike.

I agree, but just to back up a little: a Cinelli track bike IS a hot property, but given the scratched non-original paint, "Japanese" wheels and seat, Look pedals (!), it's not going to attract the rabid collectors. This is more like bait for the hipster crowd (and a short hipster, too) a vintage track bike (WITH real Campy track crankset, that's all good), but the rest of the package may be just so-so, especially if it's got poor paint with no decals and marginal road parts. Just saying: $500 may be about all it's worth even in this market, but bring more $$ just in case.

shakes head. a 90s frameset ain't worth that much, especially now that Cinelli is building SC Pistas again.

as for craigslist bike, that is a steal, despite the fact that the bike isn't perfect. $500 will get you a Bianchi Pista and few upgrades, or a Cinelli, repainted though it be. I'd say go gedditt, but I'm sure you already know that.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. The owner probably has no way of identifying it except for the word "Cinelli" embossed in the bottom bracket and that doesn't mean it is a Cinelli by a long shot. If it were a Cinelli like the one I linked in that eBay auction, he would likely know what it is and would be asking for me.

Still, any track bike on CL goes for big bucks and it would be worth checking out. I am willing to bet it is gone to the person who gets there first.

Distinctive fastback seatstays, flying c stamp in the top head lug, flat fork crown, short point lugs w/o cutouts. really nice workmanship. Lots of indicators. Repainting a '95 frame, especially one with low miles and chrome lugs and tips seems suspect.
