Visited the Coventry Transport Museum here in the UK today, quite a nice selection of bikes from different ages.

Here's a few of my favourites :-

Caminargent from 1938. Spookily someone mentioned this bike in the hexagonal tubing thread. Hexagonal aluminuim tubes bolted into rather fetching lugs.

BSA from 1908. A.E.Willis used this to break the hour record, covering 61 miles 972 yards ! I presume he was paced, the placard next to the bike didn't say. Humoungus chain wheel.

Brilliant Museum!
You got some excellent photos too.
I've been in there many times when I lived/worked in Coventry last year,
but never took a photo!
How sad am I?

Me, I just got a proper vintage (1930ish) Swift and the CTM is assisting me research its past.
Smashing people working there, proper enthusiasts, and they deserve all the exposure they can get.

Also looks like a must see for me when I next return to the UK. I've got relatives in Brum :) .

If you ever visit there ask to speak to Lesley Robertson (Bicycle Curator)
and she might show you their store room.

It's a warehouse of bicycles from every age.
They don't have space to display more than a few.
And the store is so full they don't even have enough room in there!!
It's mind boggling, I promise you!!

That's a brilliant suggestion, and when I make it there (I usually fly into Manchester, as I was born in Swinton, and most of the cousins are around Hulme, Pendleton, and Eccles, with the odd lot in Lymm) I shall make it a point to ask about the stored bicycles.

They really are keen to show their stock, and the lady in question is a true enthusiast,
don't think it will take much to persuade her.
(Hope she doesn't read this 'cos I know she is busy as h**l most of the time. Sorry Lesley!)
