I wanted to ask if Bike Forum members have had any experience using Break It, Fix It, Ride It, an interactive CD for mountain bike maintenance and repair. There are 5 reviews on mtbreview.com and everyone raves about it (5*s all around)--of course, I trust the better judgment of Forum members for the true skinny! I also wonder how useful it is for hybrid or road bikes and how it compares to books and manuals. Seems like it makes sense to do this as an interactive CD product--allows for much higher quality photos and graphics and also the interactive feature provides specific information when you want/need it.

If you're not familiar with the CD, here's the link, which includes an online demo and table of contents.

Thanks for your replies.

I personally love the CD-Rom. Before getting it I didn't know jack@$%@ about fixing anything on a bike. With it I have saved much money on doing minor to major repairs and maintenance. The CD is very detailed and if you have a Mac it works great, not sure how well on a PC. It's specific to mountain bikes so I don't know how much of it would help a road bike.

I suspect that for very knowledgable bike people it might not be detailed enought but for me it is great. I even used it today.

Contact BFR I got a demo disk from them a while ago, and got to check it out it seemed very good. It lets you run it so many times so you can get a feel for what it is like and decide if you like it or not.

TotalKos and Kev:

Thanks for your replies and the information. I didn't know you could obtain demo disks from BFR.

I hated it. Got it for x-mas and found 90% of the info useless. I was looking for a really good online guide to the complex such as rebuilding hubs, bb's etc...it covers very basic stuff that you can find on the inet or just by troubleshooting.

The fork maintenance section and fork installation was good.
