I am on a wireless dsl signal and the stupid dial up box keeps popping up every few seconds...any idea why and how to stop it other than deleting the connection?
Can't you just right click on it under connections and settings and disable?

Start - Run, type services.msc. On the right-hand pane, find Remote Access Auto Connection Manager. Double-click it, and under Startup type, select Disable. My old computer was doing that... this fixed it.
Sounds like it sees somethin' it likes...

Have you checked for virus/spyware lately?

Had the same problem, but only on start-up. There was nothing in the start-up folder, nothing in the settings for the dialer.... Nothing.
Updated and ran AVG on it. Nothing. Updated and ran AdAware on it. Nothing. Then I updated my Spybot program and ran it. It found something it needed to take out on the next boot, so I rebooted. Spybot did it's thing, and computer's been fine since. <shrug>

Incorrect default-gateway and DNS settings can sometimes make the system prefer the dial-up connection over the ethernet one.
First, find out WHY it wants to dial out the dial-up connection. As in what piece of software is searching for something. Could be a virus or phishing programme trying to phone home to the mothership...

What I did was right-click on the IE icon on my desktop, and then select "Properties". Click the "Connections" tab, and then check "Never dial a connection", then "Apply" and "OK". You can get to the same place from the "Tools" menu in IE, selecting "Internet Options". When and if DSL is down, I revert to dial-up by checking "Always dial my default connection".

Be glad you are not dialed in via modem, or else you will likely have a huge phone bill.
