Commuting - My dog doesn't like me bike commuting anymore.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I was getting ready to head out. Checked my tires, front one was down to 50. Got the flloorpump to get the 100psi I normally run. Parked the bike in the kitchen. Shiner, my border collie, stayed with the bike. OK more like he stayed in the kitchen in hopes of getting treats. As I was putting away the floor pump in my "bike room", the tire blows. The accoustics made it sound like someone shot a 35.
Shiner was out the door and in the backyard. Normally he tries to leave with me. I was lucky to get him to take his treat through the doggy door.
Just had to share some bike commute inspired humor on Friday.

Wow, that's strange. The only time I've blown a tire off the rim was when I tried cheap Performance brand tires and tubes. The front one blew off the rim immediately after pumping it up and the next day on my commute I blew the rear off the rim on the ride home. I was only running 100psi in them too. I returned those tires and bought some Michelins or Continentals, can't remember which, and I've never had this problem since.
My dog doesn't like my bikes though. She generally avoids them when I'm wheeling them through the house.

The Kenda tires that came with my Kilo TT blew off the rear rim after a few months of commuting I had swapped the tires to my road bike wheels which are Mavic Cosmic Elites..
I bought some low-end michelin speedium tires from ebay and never had a problem since !
I since removed the front kenda and dumped it just in case !

What, did Shiner bite the tire? Doesn't seem like a 100 lb tire would blow at 50lbs.
Yea those Kenda tires aren't very good. I had to fix my first flat yesterday on one of those. No tire levers required, just slipped right off. My Continentals with a lot of miles still require levers and a lot of grunting.

As for the cause I don't know. No indications Shiner bit the tire. The seam of the tube was split along the length of a molding seam. Tire:Gatorskin Ultra(kevlar bead), tube: Specialized. The bead was blown off the rim where the tube gave. Oddly I don't remember hitting anything that would even cause a "snake bite".
I just wish I could have recorded my dog's reaction. He had to have broken the land speed record for a Border Collie.

I can get my GP4000's off my Mavic ES wheels without levers. Never had one blow off the rim in thousands of miles of riding either.

Yeah, mine sounded like someone fired a gun in our kitchen...in fact, that might be why our dog doesn't like bicycles to this day.
Is there a chance you might have picked up a cut in the tire last time you rode and it just finally let go when you pumped them up?
