I know there are a few writers here in foo land so maybe someone can help me out. Recently the harddrive ancient Pentium 1 computer that I do most of my writing on, went kaput. Through my buddies at Ga Tech I was able to recover almost everything on the drive except of course the novella that I worked 2 years on.

So here's my question. It's been submitted to a few places how bad would it be for me to call or write and ask for a copy?

not at all
explain what happened, they should understand your pain.

chances are they are people to, and like everyone else, they may have dropped the soap before

Dude, startrek did that. And what happened? They got an evil Data that almost destroyed the Universe/Federation/The Enterprise at least once a season?

Long story short, don't back up your Data.

Depends on where and how long ago you submitted, but I'd be surprised if they still have a copy. Not saying anything about your writing b/c I don't know it, but the journal that I worked for in grad. school didn't keep the rejections around. Either way, it can't hurt to call and ask.
