Sorry that didn't work. They are advertised as "gum rubber hoods" for Campy NR and clones. They look pretty bad in the photos and was wondering if anyone has actually seen them. The Campy, and even the Ame have gone through the roof price-wise. I have also seen some white ones at about $32 that looked better, anyone seen those? Thanks - O

I think these are the common Euro-Asia (brandname) gum hoods that have been around for a while...they are...OK: not really pretty, not really ugly...worth about what they cost. I think the A'me hoods wear better, but that's based on only a small sampling (one unit).

I just ruined two of the Cane Creek/Dia-Compe hoods they sell, which are no where near simulating the "gum" color of the originals...but I can't find any real replacements for my levers. Mulling over buying another pair to successfully mod after another attempt.

I bought a pair of black ones and I think they're just awful. The seams are huge! I lucked out and found a pair of Super Record levers with pristine original hoods at a bike swap for cheap.

I have a few sets of the Euro-Asia brand hoods on my bikes and they are okay, they haven't deteriorated much in the couple of years I have used them. The seam is slightly annoying, but worth it to have hoods on my Campy levers. Jones Bikes sells them on Ebay for a few bucks more.

I'd like better, but until I find better these will do.

Here is what they look like in real life. I got this pair about 1 month ago. They are not as translucent as the originals, but they aren't $90 either. That is what NOS Campys seem to be going for on Ebay.

For anyone who wants a more "authentic" replacement for Campy Nuovo/Super Record levers, there's one Robbie Fellows who makes small batches of knock-off hoods in gum color; posts notices on the Classic Renaissance list occasionally, and ships when he's done some. Price is about $50, which is heaps cheaper than buying them on eBay, plus they're new, not aged for 25 years. Email is Robbie Fellows (mailto://Rnitro1969@aol.com)

I bought some "seconds" from him recently. He said that the batch came out too translucent. I don't have any problem with the color really, but they seem to be thinner than the original hoods I have (now too deteriorated to use). Right now I have some Modolo anatomic hoods on my SR levers, and they fit well enough, plus they fit my hands better. So if you can find any of those on eBay, they work too.

Funny, I never thought the old brakes produced enough leverage to operate them from the hood anyway so I always set mine up to use them from the drops. I can't really even reach the hoods without stretching. I might still ride the tops or the ramps at the bend in the bars but I brake from the drops. Never has been a problem.

I have some AME Modolo hoods on a Bianchi and a Schwinn fixed gear. When I bought those earlier this year they were about $15.... now they are $40+. Not only that, but the only colors available are, well, DIFFERENT! - O

I hope Robbie still makes them and I prefer tan on a classic bike (until Campy came with black ones).
