Foo - Happy Birthday Marines

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Whenever you served, and where ever you are. Whether you sit and eat with fellow Marines at the closest birthday ball, or you just take a moment out to reflect on the service of Marines around the world.
This year take a few moments out to reflect on the service of our fallen brothers and sisters and the illustrious history of our beloved Corps.

Hear hear. Thanks especially to the Corps for leading the charge onto the beaches of the threatening evil Hawaiian Empire in 1893 and supporting the annexation of the islands so we can all have pineapple and a great place to surf on vacation.

Yeah, the USMC decided to annex Hawaii. What universe do you live in?

Although I was in the Navy for 20 years, I worked with the Marines in Pensacola (actually they worked on me there :D), Denver CO, USS Franklin D Roosevelt, HQ United Nations Command Korea, USS Coronado and USS Cleveland, Fleet Intelligence Center Pacific, Naval Liaison Unit Munich Germany and NORAD. The Marines I worked with were great folks (well, all but one piss-ant Colonel up at PacFlt HQ and one retired E-9 in Germany).
Happy Birthday!

Well. no. Someone doesn't have to do it. Is GWB explaining where the WMD's were to that soldier?
I have no problem with the military, I have problem with corrupt politicians that misuse them.

"Our" Marines? What do you mean by "our"?
And what does this have to do with road biking?
I spent this morning with Gunny Lewis, one of my fellow Legionairres, as invited guests to a mass and POW/MIA ceremony at our local Catholic School. I didn't wish him a happy Marine Corps Birthday...because it's tomorrow, right?
In any case, Semper Fi Marines. Even an Air Force vet appreciates all that you do.

Are posts critical to the political use of the military, be it in Hawaii or Iraq, intentended to be hostile to those serving in uniform? Because when posted in a thread like this they certainly seem that way.

I'm speaking of those posts critical of the annexation of Hawaii or the US's current involvment in Iraq. In a "happy birthday marines" thread they come off as hostile to men and women in uniform.

I served for 20 years back in the day. I say if people want to be hostile, let them. I could take it then and I can take it now. It is their opinion and they have a right to it. Maybe they should express it elsewhere but they didn't. So let's move on. Just sayin'.

My post wasn't about Bush or the politics of the war. It was about a wounded soldier standing tall...that is all...

I only gave 8 years of my life to Uncle Sam's Misguided Children ;) but I feel the same way.
My neighbor is a former jarhead as well, and we are having a "steak and cake" celebration tomorrow night along with some of our other friends that wore the uniform.
So Happy Birthday to all current and former Leathernecks around the world. Stay Safe!
well let's at least make this semi bike-related:

No - not mine. My step father was a WWII marine who served in the South Pacific and spent the last 30+ years of his life without the use of his legs as a result and was proud to have done it.
My post re Hawaii was in response to the OP's use of the term "illustrious history" of the Corps and was meant to balance that view. No marine involved in that campaign is alive today.

As a bumper sticker I jave on my cubicle wall says:
Not as Mean
Not as Lean
But still a Marine!
It just made me feel a little old to recall that I was serving back during the 200th birthday!

Jesus...he may be your "commander-in-chief," but he's certainly (and thankfully) not mine. Isn't there an American subforum for all this tripe about "our" Marines and the like? Isn't this supposed to be an international forum?

Having served with a couple just a little over 4 years ago, I can certainly say thanks for the model. But for the accent (and the fact that your folks had more liquor!), it would have been hard to tell the difference between us and them. (of course - in true Marine style, each thought they had the better Corps!)

How about plenty of Marines and ex marines cycle so the Birthday of the USMC will be of interest a lot of the forum?

Hey, it's close enough -- we've had a few cake cutting ceremonies around here already, and we'll have some more until the end of next week.
In any case, Semper Fi Marines. Even an Air Force vet appreciates all that you do.
My grandpa, who started as a bomber pilot in WWII and eventually was a tanker squadron commander over Vietnam, told me about the Marines he worked with after I told him I was enlisting. He said that he respected them greatly, knowing that, no matter what he asked of them, they would accomplish the mission and do it well.
