In the search for my stolen bike I was told that the following are the best places to look. Unfortunately, having looked, I have to agree - lots of suspiciously cheap bicycles of dubious ownership.

Ebay (http://sports.listings.ebay.co.uk/Cycling_W0QQfromZR4QQsacatZ7294QQsocmdZListingItemList)

Brick lane market (Sundays from ~04:30 but most stuff won't be there until ~08:00) (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&time=&date=&ttype=&q=brick+lane+e1&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=60.54737,109.863281&ie=UTF8&ll=51.523574,-0.072162&spn=0.001477,0.003353&t=h&z=19&om=1)

gumtree - turns out that it's a hotbed of dodgy goods (http://www.gumtree.com/london/bicycles-for-sale_86_1.html)

london second hand shops (http://www.thomsonlocal.com/businessfinder.aspx?phrase=second%20hand&where=London&ld=1206&hc=690300&st=default&area=serv&type=ty&sr=0&searchid=033fab9f-4357-8352-73fe-d545b129cc7b)

car boot sales - check your local free-ad pages/newspapers

Some (a very small minority) bike shops in London - not going to name and shame as I have no proof.

When the police recover stolen property this UK valuables register is the first place they check the bike's frame number against

https://www.immobilise.com/

It's free to register ANY valuables you have.

So if you're lucky enough to 'find' your stolen bike in Brick Lane, or on the web you have positive PROOF to get the police to act, recover it, and deal with the offenders.
