When I do rides over an hour I get this pain in my right shoulder.

It's right at the AC joint and doesn't happen on my left side. I noramlly like to ride for close to two hours at night, but this has been taking the fun out of the second half of my ride.

I had my bike "fitted" last summer ago and hope that at least that isn't the problem. The problem is more pronounced on my road bike than my MTB, but I get it on there too.

I was talking to a friend fo mine yesterday about it, who does a lot more biking than I do, and he suggested that it was just a sign of aging.

Any other suggestions?

Jon

Well, you could see a Doctor and maybe get an X-ray. See if something's amiss. Otherwise try Ibuprofen (Advil).

I am just now going through Physical Therapy, MRIs, cortisone shots and a lot of pain in my shoulders. I also cannot ride a bike, hopefully just temporarily. My excrutiating pain started quite gradually over long period of time and now it is debilitating. I have trouble putting a shirt on. Go and see an orthopedist. BTW, there are problems, like torn rotator cuff, which are more commong to folks over 40. Pain killers/anti-inflamatory pills like Aleve can help, but can also mask the symtom and let the real cause get worse. It maybe nothing serious, but if it gets worse, it will be VERY painful, I guarantee it. My advice is, take no chances and ask people (like orthopedist or sports medicine specialist)who really know what they are talking about for diagnosis.

I had a little problem with swimmer shoulder a couple of years ago. I joined a master's swim club and improved my tecnique and also went to the gym to do somw rehab work.

Now my shoulder is fine for swimming. The problem comes in during my bike rides, and usually only if they go for more than 1 hour. I can go to the pool the next morning and swim with no problems at all- which seems a little strange to me.

I was wondering about my riding style? should a spend less time on the drops, more time on the hoods, or doesn't it matter?
