Bicycle Mechanics - Campy 2006-2007 shifting differences?

Couldn't find a definitive answer on the forum or internet, so I'll post it here:

2007+ campy
Rear shifting: Only Record and Chorus can multipe upshift aka drop the cassette in one thumb motion? Everything else below uses the "Escape" mech which requires 1 click per upshift? But all rear shifters can still do multiple downshifts to larger cogs?

Front shifter: What's the deal with micro-trimming? The campy website says the 2007 chorus controls still have micro-trimming, but I've read that 2006 was the last year campy produced shifters with FD micro trimming. Or, what is the difference between the micro-trimming in 2007 compared to the trimming in 2006? My 2007 Veloce has multiple trimming positions for upshifting but only takes 1 or 2 clicks to dump onto the smaller chainring in front. Did the 2006 trimming function allow micro-adjustments in both down/up directions?

I made a mistake, 2007 record and chorus still have micro trimming. So then is it true to say Record and Chorus are the only groups between 2006 to 2007 to retain all the same functionality? Meanwhile, centaur and lower groups all changed over to the Escape mech and lost the micro trimming feature in 2007?

You have the descriptions right. For 2007 Centaur and below can only upshift one cog at a time in the rear, just like Shimano has always done. Record and Chorus retain the multiple upshift capability and all groups can downshift several cogs (3 IIRC) at a time in one sweep.

For the front shifting 2007 Chorus and Record retain "micro shifting" which is what all Campy groups used to have. For 2007 Centaur and below have only one click to downshift from the big to the small for a double or to the middle ring for a triple, again, just like Shimano has always done. There is a trim click to adjust the fd over the small or middle ring but the downshift is all or nothing. Campy also changed the front derailleur's geometry so you need a "QS" front derailleur to work properly.

If you have a 06 or older set of shifters, you'll notice that you can't buy non-QS FDs anymore except maybe on closeout old stock. You can "upgrade" your left shifter to QS cable pull by changing out the ratchet gear. The PN is EC-RE234

If you have '06 or older Ergo shifters, can't you just use the new QS front derailleur anyway? I believe the micro adjust feature pretty much allows you to mix-and-match any fd and crank combination.

Hm, the lack of microadjusting (in both directions) for 2007 centaur and below groups kinda sucks. This means you can't microadjust the FD in the inner chainring direction.. But well I guess if you'd ever need to microadjust in that direction, you're in the overlap zone of gear ratios with the inner chainring anyway? I duno. I'm just kind of bummed b/c I bought 2007 Veloce shifters and I didn't know it lacked the microadjust feature. The quick single click to drop to the inner chainring is pretty nice if you have just a double in front, but it reminds me of any old brute-force front derailleur, rather than the fine italian touch i'd imagine campagnolo to be.

We rebuilt my friends old record left shifter to QS last winter. Its an easy rebuild and a $5 part, might as well change your g-springs as well. QS is really nice when you have matching parts.
