Since I couldn't ride with the guys at Mt. Tam, I'm relegated to riding on Sunday. So if anyone wants to join me, I'm planning on starting @ 8 am, from the Chain Reaction parking lot. Here's the route:

can't do it this time.... do you have a version that shortens the route by 10-12 miles? Preferably with something cut out on the north end?

Yes, just head down on Page Mill ... I think it cuts the ride in half, but the main feature is the climb up Redwood Gulch ... it's brutal!

brutal? compare it to something I know.... olh, tunitas? Which direction were you planning on going?

By brutal, I mean steep. Let's see ... trying to think of something to compare it too ... put it this way ... ACTC rates OLH and Tunitas as a 5 ... they rate Redwood Gulch as a 6. 1.5 miles and 650 feet climbing.
Direction? Up. I guess it would be going south.

I wish I could but I can't. I'm on-call next Saturday. I was supposed to be this weekend, but I swapped with another guy.
I'm down. I'll be able to try out the new winter wear I just bought after damn near freezing on 35 today from King's Mountain to 9.

So now I don't feel so bad about riding my bent around town ... I probably got a total of 8 miles in.

I don't think it was as bad as Pete's journey today since the rain was not as heavy, just a really heavy mist. I had Friday off and went up 9 to 35 to Page Mill (paved!) and was quite cold on 35 with a vest, arm warmers, full gloves, knee warmers and toe covers. Today I swapped the vest with a jacket and also added long socks to cover the shins under the knee warmers. The descent on 35 from King's Mountain to Sky Londa was damn cold for what I'm used to and it never let except for the area around Page Mill. I saw the AV B ride going the other way on 35 and precious few other cyclists. I really need to start hammering 35, those rollers drain all the momentum out of me. There was a Hot Dog stand at 35/9 but I wanted to get down the hill as quick as I could so I resisted that temptation. First time descending Redwood Gulch, probably went faster than I should have.
I bought enough winter gear today to ride comfortably on Hoth.

I'll probably do this in the afternoon ... by that time, the roads should be dried off. I really don't want to slip on Redwood Gulch with it being that slick.

I think the hardest part of Redwood Gulch is twice as steep and about the same length as the hardest part of Tunitas Creek. The rest of Tunitas Creek is similar in difficulty to climbing Hwy 9 from Redwood Gulch to Skyline. Hwy 9 does get much much more (like 100X) traffic than Tunitas Creek.
