Classic & Vintage - Mixte made for 26" wheels?

Does anyone know off hand of a mixte made for 26" (ISO 559) wheels?

I'm building a tourer around a 26" wheelset and think a mixte frame would be nice. Brake reach won't be an issue since both wheels are drum brakes but I just dont' want there to be an obscene amount of wheel gap. Maybe a frame for 650B would be ok?

In europe there are a lot of touring bikes built for a smaller wheel. I think it might be a 650b and they also are fitted to mixtes but I have only seen one used one for sale here here.

Depending on the frame you are using the gap may not be that big. Modern racing frames have very little gap so the smaller wheel and fenders could work and look fine. Mount the fenders for a 559 on an extender you'll have to fabricate from the fender to the brake bridge. As long as brakes aren't an issue I think you are good! Ron

I doubt that you'll be able to find a "modern racing" mixte frame.

I found what I believe is a 1987 Miyata triple butted mixte frame in a 54cm for my wife's bike. Miyata made the same bikes for Univega so there are some "lighter" mixtes out there. They are about a half pound more than the same bike in a diamond frame. Just going to 700c's I have room for fenders and larger tires on hers. The hard part is finding one biger than a 50cm. Ron

I just built up a Bridgestone mixte for my girlfriend. I swapped out the fork for a 26" fork, to take care of brake reach up front. The rear is a Sachs drum brake, so no problem there. It makes for a very small, stylish bike for her.

I built this little mixte for my wife. It urned out to be lighter than any of my other bikes, but it only had one speed and that didn't work for her. The switch to 700c tubulars required using long reach centepulls.

I went with an 8 speed, 700c's and a compact crank. I just did a gear change to this bike after the photo to an 11-32 cassette. Powdercoating will be this winter if I can decide on a color scheme.

I think this would handle 26" wheels with a moderate sized tire.

I agree that it makes for a nice-sized mixte. They're rare enough (at least in the U.S.) to make me want to hold onto the one I found recently--it's now my wife's bike. Here it is:

I think what I am going to do is get a 27" or 700C mixte and build some 650B wheels for it with decently fat rubber. Just have to find some rims and tires in 650B right now. Was hoping to get a Schwalbe in 650B but I don't really like their offerings in that size. Looking for a blackwall in about 35mm width with mild tread, nothing too aggressive.

Kogswell made a 26 inch mixte frame for a short time but it had single speed rear dropouts. I built one for my wife before they ran out of frames (he sold a bunch on ebay) and it is great.
