Hi... first time on this board though I do read the others.... anyway, my neighbor has a Schwinn Le Tour III, looks to be all original and in excellent condition, it has a city registration tag dated 1980 so it's at least that old... they never ride it (still looks like original tires) and I can have it for a reasonable offer.. worth buying? reasonable offer?

LeTour III was 1978.

I would consider it a bike worth buying if it is your size. The only thing I would change is perhaps alloy rims... especially if you want to ride it in the rain. Otherwise, I would consider it a nice vintage ride.
As far as what would be a good price. I have an emotional desire for a LeTour IV since it was my first road bike, and I bid on one in good shape... I bid more than I paid for it in 1979, and lost on Ebay!
As I recall the LeTour III is actually slightly lighter.
Depending on where you live, $100 would seem like a reasonable offer to me. Less if he wants to do you a favor. ;)
Depending on location, the bike could be worth more than that, but I think the offer of $100 would be in the ballpark of reasonable.

I agree with Darwin; $100 would be about right, and I'd replace the Araya steel rims with alloy ones.

Thanks for the reponses... I think I'll definately pick it up.. it's in really good condition. No wear, no tear, no rust or corrosion anywhere. It's been hanging from a garage ceiling for the last ten years...

I paid $180 (ebay) for mine in like new condition. It was a bargain.
