Bicycle Mechanics - double shift to get to big chain ring?

I have a road bike with campy record (unknown year) from left shifter and an ultegra 6600 front derailleur. I have to throw twice to shift up to the big chainring.. this doesn't seem right. how do I address this? thanks!

Try following the setup instructions a the Park Tool site.
Are the crankset and derailleur both triple or double? Mixing might contribute to the problem.

as mentioned above, check out the info on how to adjust a front derailleur on the park tool site.
it sounds like your cable tension may be too loose or the inner limit screw is backed out too far.

Your description doesn't say enough. Is the shifter indexed or not? If it is indexed then it will use multiple index points when shifting to move the front derailluer. Shimano will index once for a double and twice for a triple. Sheldon is right doesn't matter which FD you are using. Read instructions on how to setup the FD from the Park site or a good book. How you align the Shimano and Campy FD w.r.t the crank set (large ring) are slightly different. Make sure the physical separation is 1 to 2 mm. Then learn about the shifting differences between Campy and Shimano.

Your description doesn't say enough. Is the shifter indexed or not?Actually the description does say enough, because it says it's a Campagnolo shifter. Campagnolo has never made an idexed front shifter.
